  2. Hi there My son and I are going to do the 36ONE half and are looking for gravel road training routes in the Cape Town area. We live in Newlands so use the green belt tracks but there really isn't anything much in the long gravel road variety. Suggestions? Where will we find a collection of gravel roads that will allow 100km plus on gravel. I am not looking for hectic stuff... Regards Wayne
  3. Hi Hubbers! CALLING ALL LADY RIDERS!! My husband recruited me into the wonderful world of mountain biking pretty recently - Although I love hiking, Mountain Biking takes being in nature to a whole new level with a competitive edge. Im a beginner - still waiting to upgrade from my entry level Giant Revel. I would really love to set up a social biking group for women who want to ride together and meet new friends while enjoying the awesome trails in Cape Town and surrounds. Is there anyone out there that would be interested? - no fees, just fun! Guys - Tell your ladies to join the Forum! - its a bit of a sausage fest out here.
  4. Good morning Hubbers! Heading down to CPT over the festive season, holding all thumbs and toes that provincial government won't impose silly lockdowns. Has anyone done this route before? Looks pretty epic, think I want to give it a try after I stumbled across some Dane posted a video on his YT channel. https://ridewithgps.com/ambassador_routes/1529-cycle-tour-364-route-ride-the-cape-penin

  7. Hi everyone Moved to Constantia (Cape Town) from Sweden a few days ago, staying for 9 months and will be working at the Red cross Childrens hospital. Ideally I would like to commute by bike from Constantia to the hospital. I would just like to ask you 1. Comments on my proposed route, see attached pdf? Basically I would head east on M41, then north on the M28 joining the proposed commuting route stated here 2. If anyone would like to commute together (leave around 6-6.15 in the morning, and leave around 16.45 going home), please let me know. 3. Where can I buy a decent bike (not to expensive due to risk of theft, a few thousand rands maybe)? New, used, whatever works. Kind Regards Petter Constantia – Google Maps.pdf
  8. (Cape Town, 18 December 2019) A month after the successful inaugural staging of CHALLENGECAPETOWN, the Mother City’s first middle distance triathlon, the event has won the Best New Race category in the international CHALLENGEFAMILY Awards. The winners in the 12 awards categories were decided by popular vote, giving race participants the power to rate their race experience. Other categories included Best Fans, Most Family Friendly, Best Swim / Cycle / Run Course, Most Eco-Friendly, and Race of the Year. CHALLENGECAPETOWN was also a finalist in the Most Eco-Friendly category, but narrowly lost to Germany’s CHALLENGEHEILBRONN. “I was proud and excited to receive the news that we won the Best New Race on the CHALLENGEFAMILY international circuit,” says CHALLENGECAPETOWN’s Race Director, Gary Marescia. “It is a great accolade and testament to the strength of the team that pulled this event together. This prestigious award is also the direct result of the fantastic collaboration between the organising team, Triathlon South Africa and the City of Cape Town. A big thank you goes to the participants who came out and supported the race, as well as to our sponsors who shared our vision to bring middle distance triathlon to Cape Town. We have commenced our event planning for 2020, and are excited to grow CHALLENGECAPETOWN into one of South Africa’s biggest triathlons in the coming years.” The inaugural CHALLENGECAPETOWN featured a point-to-point race course, starting with a 1.9km Big Bay swim, flat and fast 90km cycle into the CBD, and culminating in a 21km run through the Zonnebloem and District Six precincts. The event was won by Pablo Dapena from Spain, and British pro, Emma Pallant. CHALLENGECAPETOWN will return to the City on 8 November 2020. Entries have opened, with Early Bird rates available to the first 250 entrants. Visit www.challenge-cape-town.com for more information and to enter.
  9. Can anyone recommend a route to take around Cape Town (I'm from overseas but based in Somerset West for the summer) that would be suitable for a 60 minute FTP test? I've just ordered my first power meter, but can't think of anywhere near me that doesn't either have too much decent or intersections.
  10. Event Name: Challenge Cape Town When: 10 November 2019 Where: Big Bay - Cape Town City Centre, Western Cape Category: Multisport The City of Cape Town will host its first middle distance triathlon on Sunday, 10 November 2019. CHALLENGECAPETOWN will comprise a 1.9km swim in Big Bay, a 90km cycle with three turning points along the coastal road that will end in the CBD, and a 21km run that will be completed over three laps in the Zonnebloem / District Six precinct. This is one of only a handful point-to-point events in the country, where the start and finish are in two different locations. In an historic moment, the finish stretch of the cycle leg will see athletes sprinting along the iconic Government Avenue in the Company’s Garden - the first cycle race to do so. Situated at the edge of the Company’s Garden and at the foot of Table Mountain, the Cape Town High School sports fields will be transformed into a spectator friendly finish line and race village on Race Day. The 7km run loop will become a hive of activity as spectators and supporters line the streets to watch all the race day action, while athletes will pass some of the City's historical buildings and iconic landmarks. Top triathletes include Tim Don, Laura Siddall, Matt Trautman, Bradley Weiss, James Cunnama and Jeanni Seymour. Go to Event Page
  11. Hi All, I have started getting some controlled air for the last few months, but when riding i will only take on table tops, drops or ramps. I still bail out of jumps that have a ramp and a landing with a gap in between. Anyone know of a good trail section or place to practice speed and landings with jumps. I live in Cpt, but ride cpt, durbanville, stellenbosch and Somerset west frequently. Regards, Willowskid
  12. I am back in cape Town after being away for a good few years. Who runs the best workshops? Your bike comes back in great shape, no snafus, good pricing...
  13. I know it is late in the day, but it doesn’t hurt to try! My husband and I are looking to rent a Cannondale Road Tandem s/m road bike to use for the Argus (Cape Town Cycle Tour). We train at home (Namibia) on a 29’er Cannondale MTB but want to avoid traveling with the bike. Any leads would be appreciated. Thanks
  14. Any availability of 52 cm bike to rent for the Argus? I'm not an avid rider, so a road bike or light cruiser would be fine, as long as it's in good condition. Most of the bike shops/rentals are completely sold out. Any ideas?
  15. Hi guys I'm visiting Cape Town from the UK over Christmas & NY (arrive tomorrow and here until the 2nd Jan) - and bringing my long travel mtb with me. Does anyone know of any group rides in and around Cape Town I could join over the period? Either Table Mountain/Tokai or further afield? I'm reasonably fit and used to riding black trails in Europe - so keen to try the most technical stuff you have. ???? Thanks in advance!! Robin
  16. Cycling on Rosmead Avenue, Cape Town. Driver tears up behind me and passes recklessly close, throwing his hands in the air. I catch up to him, ask if he would like some time to explain himself. He wants to know where he is supposed to find 1m to pass me! He starts losing his cool, punches me in the face. I get in front of his car to take photo of number plate. He drives car into me, sits on the hooter. I wait for red traffic light, ask if he would like to pull over to talk. He closes window, disengages. I still want to engage, have a beer together, discuss better options. Can anyone help me find this guy? White, English-speaking man with poor manners, two young kids, CPR sticker on windscreen, and lightning-fast right jab. (Photos deleted out of respect for the motorist and his willingness to engage constructively)
  17. Stolen from flat in Vredehoek. Full carbon ladies mountain bike. Green and black. Dutch flag on seat post. Bottle cage x1. Please contact 0842708201 should you come across the bike.
  18. So, I decide to come into the city for the weekend after moving out to Ceres this year, thinking it's a pretty good idea to visit my good mate and le Hub legend, Myles Mayhew. Myles recently moved into a pretty sweet pozzie in Plumstead, Cape Town and of course a braai is the standard procedure. Now, me pursuing a rather fulfilling lifestyle of "Bike is Life", I keep my Thule platform, 2-bike rack locked onto my tow bar pretty much 24/7. I've had this amazing bike rack since my 18th in 2011 (yes I'm still a laaitie - be jealous!) and it has served me perfectly. Thule might be p**s expensive, but is definitely worth it, especially when your parents spoil you like a brat... So, the lady and I park just off Main Road, in front of Figaro Hair Designs (F.H.D.). Fast forward through amazing food (cooked by Myles himself in the "man oven" a.k.a. a Weber), lekker beer and general merriness with quality friends, we leave shortly after 10pm. Only to find that the tiny rear, left window of my beloved Polo Vivo had been shattered, but fortunately held in place by the smash-and-grab film. Pretty annoyed, I was not prepared for what I noticed next... My incredible Thule bicycle rack was as absent as Zuma come court time! Not only my bike rack, but my blerrie tow bar ball too! They had unscrewed my tow bar head bolts and made off with the head locked inside the bike rack... It doesn't end there though. Just to rub my white privilege in my face, they clipped through my trailer lights electronic cable and sommer the female coupler too! I must say, this kind of theft/crime was probably planned with tools and alles. Not exactly your opportunistic kind of crime. Anyway, family and I are grateful the entire car wasn't stolen or that I wasn't hijacked. Bike rack not explicitly insured, but I have a nice broker and he's going to see what he can do with the car insurance. So, ladies and gentleman. Hide your wife, hide your kids, hide your husbands and most of all, hide your bike racks. 'Cause they out pillaging err'body!
  19. Hi my name is Rob. I am a cyclist based in Fish Hoek, Cape Town. I am looking for riding/training partners for either road or mountain or both in and around the Southern peninsula/Southern suburbs. The only catch is due to a busy workday I ride early mornings leaving 5 back by 7 or so. I am more than happy to leave earlier if need be and meet up with you somewhere more convenient. I guess I average about 25-26km/h on road bike with climbs included. Can easily handle a bit more and am super relaxed about riding with slower people but faster or equal is ideal. Weekends we can ride at a more sensible hour! I enjoy riding road, love riding mountain, climbing is awesome, I am a bit slow on single track as I am rather new to the sport. Hoping to do rides of about 50-60km during week or hill sprints and repeats. Weekend longer rides are awesome! If anyone knows of groups or people who ride those kinds of times I would love to hear of them. Thanks for taking the time to read my post! Cheers Rob

  21. Can anyone offer some advice on the best (ideally safe, scenic and reasonably challenging) road route? I don't mind taking some detours. At the moment I've got something like this https://drive.google.com/open?id=1_F7VgQ6Mwd6Bmbd3V-iTGJXLcxI&usp=sharing Thanks in advance!
  22. Hi, I know there are a few groups that ride along this route, but I'm lacking an invite Riding in winter is bad enough, not to have to do it alone would be great thanks Brian
