Hi all, I have probably been watching this community (the cycling community as a whole in CPT) for a year now.

I would love to become apart of it and make new friends. Can’t imagine a better hobby/lifestyle to pick up.

I am tired of vicariously living through all of the super cool instagram posts. I don’t have a bike and when I went to a bike shop there was a bike for me, a liv avail (48), but it was so expensive.

Where do I go to meet people, make friends, grow into this community? I am in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. Basically cycling utopia. How can I get into this without a bike? Where do you all meet up? Can I rent a bike and join a ride?

Thank you!!

I assume you're interested in mtb'ing (LizMTB)? What Buff/Andy will be a good starting point to get involved with like minded peeps.

If you have a budget and bike size the hub will advise on new or second hand bike options.

Waseem in the classifieds can hook you up with a decent road bike for smaller money (if it’s a Liv Avail you were looking at, that’s a road bike).

If you are looking for a mountain bike there’s Zarras (Bicycle Yard) and a few other second hand dealers in the WC.

Getting into cycling doesn’t have to be too expensive as long as you speak to the right people.

A great place to start will be with the Dirt Addict ladies, check them out on FB 👍

Thank you! Any suggestions for road groups? Want to try all of the options!

I made that name when I thought that's what I wanted, but then I tried that road bike and it felt amazing. So smooth and fast and comfy. Generally speaking though, anywhere I can make a start would be good :)

Pedal Power Association has groups riding weekends ... could be a good place to start.

Have to agree with @BuffsVintageBikes

Dirt Addict ladies are a very active group.  Some very fast racers, but they have ladies of all abilities.

Training sessions at the local bike shops.

Weekend rides

They are represented at all the local races.  Road bikes, MTB's ....
