Forgive my inexperience but would something like this not be more practical. Not aero, but I don’t think anything is aero once you’ve got an Endurance setup mounted.

actually it more about relieving the  neck, shoulders and upper arms to engage the muscle groups differently. Your hands are still gripping a bar.

update on the bar rule stuff,  after this weekend i can say that the handlebar police is not interested in us mortals at the back.  saw plenty with inner bar ends, the short 2 finger ones on bikes,  farr integrated bar, when i asked the gent how he got in with that he said the to ref at the chute, that it was the only place he could mount his light and gps, the said ref then told him "i did not see anything".  I also noticed a couple of full sus mtb's with drop bars on.  there was even someone with inner elbow pads which i have no idea how they sneaked it into the start chute.  so in my observation after friday, unless you are racing at the pointy end, or are blatantly putting on clip on aerobars, like they use at the munga, you should be fine for next year.

ok,  when i did ask, i got this.

Unfortunately drop bars will not be allowed, please see CSA rule below:

4.1.040
During MTB races no traditional road handlebars may be used.
Clips-on extensions or inner bar ends are forbidden but traditional bar ends are authorized.

lots of gravel bikes in the race pictures.....pretty sure this has been drilled to death ad nauseum.

I think the point is the inconsistency of the rules application. It’s supposed to be a Mtb event. Not sure when the rules shifted to allow gravel bikes or drop bars. I think everyone knowing exactly what the score is would have results in less banter about it
