Hi. I have a new power saddle which I love, but it is "eating" my bibs.

My thinking was to have it covered in leather, but from what I understand covering a power saddle in leather is quite difficult.

Anybody tried it yet or know someone?

Cheers

Is this genuine power saddle from specialized, or something like the Sella Italia Model-X Green Comfort Plus?

I gave the later a try, and its finish was doing the same to my bibs - went back to genuine spez power saddles and never had issues.

It's a specialized, but the seat feels slightly "rubbery and grippy"... if it makes sens. I also have a Sella which is even more grippy

A good car upholsterer will be able to do this for you. If your timing is right they may have offcuts to use. I have used a backyard guy with a good reputation, on other saddles (not power saddle) and been very happy. There is no reason why they can't do it for your saddle.

The cut out makes it a complicated job. I've had a Selle SMP recovered so its not impossible.

I suspect your saddle eating your bibs is more to do with a mismatch between your inner thighs and the saddle shape and or edges if its wearing away there.

Its very rare to see the seat pad area wearing away on a saddle with a smooth cover like the Specialied Power

I think it is more my imagination 🙂 I have always enjoyed leather as it feels quite smooth. Unfortunately my leather contact does not do power saddles. The construction makes it very difficult. If you could let me know who did yours.

Moosa Claasen at Bridge Cycles in Cape Town did my SMP.

Woodstock leather also does saddle recovering, specialising in leather

(see what I did there)

if the original cover is still intact then it’s an easier job because that can be used as a template for the replacement cover.

Guy did mine. Absolutely spectacular job. And I think reasonably priced too.

Definitely prefer the leather. He covers over the old saddle.

Gareth ( great guy to deal with) did an exceptional job on an older saddle for me, but said that the newer saddles is a proper  challenge and something that he would rather pass over.

Yes him. I was just checking with him if he was good to let people have his number. I actually found him here on the hub. I can absolutely say it is a top notch job. So he is happy to give quotes as far as I can see.

Ok cool, I recall he was apprehensive of these saddles with a cut out. But with an intact existing cover to work a template from it should be more managable.
