  1. Agreed. TBH the stuff im not good at is the time consuming maintenance id honestly outsource or in some cases just rather upsell --> Untrue Wheels - I can replace a spoke, and get a decent bush level of truing using a ziptie, but if a wheel is too far gone needing a rebuild, id rather sell and buy a new one. Brake Bleeds - Mineral oil, happy to do myself, DOT4, aint no chance i want that on my garage floor or hands - it goes in. Bottom Brackets - BSA, do it myself, Pressfit, ive stopped doing these because im not doing them often enough to get the tolerance right. Probably a topic for another day, but most of us DIY mechanics are probably doing this critical component incorrectly. The rest of the bike is YouTube obvious, monkey see monkey do type of activity.
  2. Has anyone actually attended the home mechanic course and is it recommended if you can already strip bolts, over tighten headsets and untrue wheels?
  3. Are you going to keep the suspension fork or go fixed? Some notes around component compatibility: 1-Sram 1x11 is not actually compatible between thumb and brake shift levers - you need the right RD 2-Sram hydraulics works fine between post and direct mount calipers i.e mtb calipers work fine with brake shift levers 3-as mentioned throughout this thread, the size of the front chainring can be limiting on a MTB, potentially maxing out at 36/38t which will limit your overdrive. 4-geometry on a MTB for gravel purposes can be tricky, you're going to pedal hard for the bike to "float" That is all - ignore anything else anyone else says - o wait - its keyboard friday ...
  4. Something nifty to play with is this GPX -> STL converter i discovered yesterday. If you want to custom 3D print a GPX file with elevation accentuated for one of your rides off strava: https://gpxtruder.xyz/ I would merge this onto a base plate with labels and descriptions etc similar to this Nurbugring 3D print.
  5. I was going to print that for fun, then realised it had a $1 fee .... Id be very cautious using this design for anything heavier than a 530/540. The 1030/1040 would definitely break that on a rough surface. Attached images are a replica of the canyon 3D mount which took quite a bit to break in the stress test, but honestly my discovery on resonance based breaks makes me doubtful on these use cases, and they look ugly on a nice bike. 6. head of finance only tracks the color of the bike, just dont change color and number of them in the garage and you're good
  7. Ride what you got .... and if you can - get a crux so you can be faster than everyone else on gravel 🤣
  8. My 2024 Crux came with Shimano GRX 820 12-speed mechanical which ive spent some time with. Ive now changed the front chainring to 42t and the rear cassette to a 10-51t which gives me a nice pedalling range from 0.82 -> 4.2 (originally came with 40t and 10-45t cassette 0.89 -> 4.0). For those wanting a poor mans mechanical mullet, its hard to beat Shimano durability and value, but can honestly say that the smoothness of my 1x11 SRAM Force is missed. FWIW im using a "goatlink" to allow my medium cage derailleur to absorb the larger cassette. Also im not crazy about the chain-line on a non-boost setup. There is a heap of resistance with the chain this far over .

  10. Ag nee man Dave, you belong in the pro welding thread, this is for us hackers with plastic printers 🖨️ 😁
  11. Temu has alot that im keen on - thanks for the tip!
  12. But is it cool as this dave ... 😝
  13. I honestly thought temu was a scam, did the items actually arrive? How have you used these mounts? The axle mount is quite high from the base plate, that 30mm counts for internal bike usage. Assuming you're using for a bakkie.
  14. Renting at > EUR30 per day vs EUR75 for taking your own bike is a no-brainer IMO You get your own equipment, no surprises, and you can use the bag as extra packing space when you return. It was way sweater to fly with sports equipment before airlines started charging, but is still a way better option than renting.
  15. You took the thought straight out my head @Jono 👏🏼 V3 will definitely have the gussets and a slight raise on the axle height, i may have shaved to close to the bone for the Crux, the Diverge didnt fit.
  16. Looks like a winner after adding alot more footprint and material. destructive tests succeeded, lets see how it lasts with some long term use.
  17. I like this design, but the bikes don’t work in this orientation, I don’t want to remove seatposts. The moment you turn the bikes you can’t use the rail, mount options limited. I think my design is optimal for my needs.
  18. the 20deg offset allows for three gravel bikes to easily stack next to each other without having space issues. (You can sort of see what i sized up in the post before with two bikes next to each other). Thanks 👏🏼 i often find im transporting two bikes in which case i need a solution like this. For one bike, i wouldn't be bothered, i just install the bike upside down across the rear of the front seats, but for two, i want something more stable/neat/less prone to bashing around.
  19. Almost there, base plate needs to be wider.
  20. Has anyone thought about internal bike mounts for their SUV? i think i can make this work ...
  21. 24hrs after the epic is finished, and Grotts still looks like he is suffering from PTSD - Matt is a total machine - onto the lifetime gran prix now!
  22. FWIW i 100% disagree with this statement. Its an open/free market - you can ignore the offers.
  23. I've bought a couple of "sight unseen" Diverge gravel bikes from Bike Market/WebuyBicycles and had good experiences both times. I've also been low balled a ton of times on some of my ads, which i simply ignore. What is useful is that the bikes they make offers on, are literally all sold with in a couple of weeks after that, giving me indication of product popularity.
