I’ve put an ad up looking for a power meter/pedals for my mtb(I know, I know, scammers love those ads). Yesterday morning I got a reply from “Jamesrider” asking if “I was sorted? Otherwise message Daniel he has one.” I messaged him but his WhatsApp profile looked incredibly dodgy, business account with ~AECOM ? And(I hadn’t had my coffee yet so my brain was still idling in neutral),I thought I’d better check James’ bikehub profile. Someone had tried to scam me once before on FB marketplace and this felt eerily similar…and surprise surprise. He’d been on the Hub for an 1 HOUR. Anyway, blocked him and “Daniel”. But I want to say that Bikehub sent me a mail to warn me that they had picked up Jamesrider as a potential scammer and to please be careful. Which I think after my experience on FB marketplace,is just amazing. Thanks Bikehub for looking out for us on the Hub,part of which makes being on this platform so fantastic. It’s a community.

Yes, great platform, but you still need to be alert. Rather use email alerts on ads instead of wanted ads for high value items. And make sure to have that coffee before engaging!

Thanks for the positive feedback, @Gravel Girl.

The community part is important. Another Hubber alerted us to this scammer's activity. We just confirmed it and took action. Sadly, they will be back but we hope to make it as difficult as possible for them to find success.
