Howzit hubbers! So I’ve just finished up my hardtail build, but… I took her for a spin around the block yesterday and definitely a bit of a stretch between the dropper and my pedals (just too large for me) for reference it’s got 175mm crank arms and a 150mm dropper (seatpost as far down as possible) what’s my best course of action here? Shorter cranks , maybe 160mm or so I get a shorter 125 mm dropper? Or do I need to do both 🤦‍♂️

I would measure the distance from the bottom of the seatpost (or clamp) to a reference point on the saddle. Then I would put the saddle on a normal steel / alu seatpost that is short enough to be moved up/down to find the correct height of your seat as if you are doing a proper bike fit. Measure the distance to the se reference point on the saddle. Whatever the delta between the two is what you need to try and find. Then do the math to see which option is cheapest.

You need to do some math here bud.. will the shorter cranks put you in the area of where your seat actually needs to be.. maybe use the le monde method to get a rough idea.. but I would say don’t waste your time, effort and money to get it wrong by guessing or using that method and I’d go straight to a professional fitter for advice.. 👍🏻

Thanks for the replies, so i went to Gear Change for some help this morning, they were super accommodating and inserted a shim in the dropper (Lost 20mm on the dropper) and the height is perfect! it was a 250 rand odd excursion. So super happy! i would like shorter cranks eventually, but for now the height is spot on and i can ride! will post pics of the build, im super stoked.

I was there with my road bike fine tuning my saddle height while they helped you.

Just spent 2 hours there updating my fit including shorter cranks and a Q factor adjustment involving new pedals after recent ultras took me to my biomechanical limits.

First ride today ... never felt more stable and planted on the bike. Money well spent.

Watch the classifieds for a stages left crank power.meter in a 175mm shimano 105!

What do they charge for a fit?

Cheapest option will be the dropper. To get those 160mm or 165mm cranks will be a headache. If the dropper still feel too long get 170mm cranks. They are readily available.
