Thoughts on this? Seems like a nice long ride without any dangerous areas. Could also skip the loop part by botties and come back along the same gravel roads after and also perhaps explore the mountain more by paarl to get some elevation in

Not sure about the dowhill from Paarl Mountain through Spice route - that might not be open to public or you might need a day pass from Paarl Trails. You might need to go via the Paarl Monument if you want to stick to public roads. The rest is fine 👍

I agree with Skubarra. Downhill from Paarl Mountain into Spice Route is possible and will require a day permit, if I'm not mistaken there will be a QR code for Snapscan or Zapper at the entrance to pay. It will be sketchy on a gravel bike so sticking to the Paarl Reserve is not a huge a train smash either just exit at the Taal Monument.

If you want to skip the "dangerous" area then your green line is good as well & go back on the gravel roads you came, https://www.strava.com/routes/3430494601166932310 I've slightly modified your route for the return back home to get more gravel in but this is going to be a long day out at the hottest time of the year, I suspect at some point you will pull the plug and take shortest route home.

P.S. Nowhere is safe. The Silo's (where your green line ends) has even had the odd mugging/attempt at least. There is an informal settlement just behind it with all sorts of characters hanging around at those intersections. Just be alert and if your senses tells you something is not good listen to it.

@milky4130 got a bit burned out after the standford 100 and have just been riding MTB in tygerberg hills. But i plan on doing the paarl route in the next week.

I can imagine, all that sand must’ve been tough.
