This mornings protest ride after the spate of cycling accidents was declared illegal by our wonderful municipality.

Another glittering example of their failure to listen to their residents and act like officials who serve their community.

What a thing for the families who made the effort to attend this morning!

No doubt the City thought that by sqaushing the protest now it will die down and in time people will forget! What a disgrace!

You see, the problem is you did not set things alight and turned over dustbins. You did it wrong so it can not be considered a protest. I bet no-one even did the vakbond vastrap.

The city phoned the organisers last night to say permission was refused and sent a letter/email this morning.

A lot of riders just rode circuits in the "safe lane" but the whole momentum of the protest was lost.

Needs to be in Durban though samma, We need these "officials" to see what we need, those 4 cyclist knocked down on Saturday are part of my club, part of the group I ride with!! If i had been there i couldv been killed, now all my friends are in hospital beds, its not right!!

I guess law abiding people are just too easy targets to screw over again and again.  See what happens if a workers strike is declared illegal...or a police strike...

What was the reasoning for declaring it illegal?
Posted

It was illegal because they did not get seven clear days notice and the police have their hands full with Zumas trial in Pmb and it was during rush hour traffic!

Bollocks!

The reason behind this that there were insufficient "Officials" as they all in Pietermaritzburg for the Jacob Zuma case !!!

There must have been around 3000 riders turn out this morning.

I dont think Cycle Safe will leave it here.

Watch eTV and Daily News were there too.
