There in lies the problem...

 

Picture the scenario:

 

So you're an aspiring swimmer - no one has been banned for drugs - records are still tumbling - you don't make the team.

 

Who are you going to be angry at? Your fellow swimmers even though you aren't sure they are taking drugs? The selectors because they selecting swimmers that you think are doping? Yourself because your not taking drugs? Yourself because you're just not good enough?

 

That's a lot of anger with no proof or place to lay the anger....

 

Let's face it - unless you see an athlete with a syringe up their arm with an EPO label you're never going to know who if they doped for sure. The angst is just not worth it.

Incorrect....

 

The problem with cyclists is the amount of drugs they use. Cyclists use far more products at much higher dosage that swimmers.

 

EPO for instance. Cyclists at top level will use 4000 units every second day at minimum and microdose on 350 units per 75 kg's during competition. Swimmers use about 3000 units per week and microdose on the same amount. Cyclists will also use most of the season whereas the swimmers only seem to use before big competitions.

 

It doesnt seem to make sense that the dosages vary so much but this is what they are using. Perhpas the duration of the event has something to do with it.

 

Besides, EPO is not the prefered substance anymore. There is far safer and more effective things out there now.

The Yanks at the Olympics  wrt medals were always the best but were only matched in the late 60's and 70's by the Soviet Union and East Germany (when they competed as the USSR and E Germany who had a doping program). so we can assume that the Yanks were attaining those results because of doping, the USSR and the E G just caught up with them. funny how the performances of the East Eurpoeans went down once the Wall came down in the late 90's.

now you have the Aussies and the Chinese (and they have a doping program) matching the Yanks.

i'm not . i attended a lecture by Prof Tim Noakes, he had all the performances plotted out on a graph. the USA were the best in all the games leading up to 1968 and then the E Germans came and matched them and even overtook them in subsequent Olympics. this proven by the number of top usa athletes busted in the Balco affair.
