Spoke to a few people who's opinion on technical I trust, they say they're proper technical courses. Besides look at the times compared to the distance and then compare it to an equivalent distance in this country. They're alot harder over there.

I hope so' date=' was a little dissapointed that he didn't go to marathon worlds.......I think  he can get some good results in the marathon discipline internationally......[/quote']

He's got the physical ability to do alot of damage at the marathon worlds, the issue comes in with his technical ability.

They use proper mtb routes for the marathons not what we call marathon courses at all.

so true, they have like 120kms with 2kms tar and 118kms technical singletrack with heavy helpings of mud and rocks.

but this years course in Italy was dirt roads only (ie. they "simoni'ed it")

What about him winning both long Knysna rides this year.

He won the road event going away.

And he rode very well but, the knysna mtb race has 1 technical piece that lasts for about 50m right at the finish. That doesn't make it technical.

was DG the one intending to do the XC race at the olympics this year?

Definitely not! If anyone other than Burry was expecting to fill our one spot in Beijing' date=' they were delusional!

I might confuse things, but the origin of "chubby teenager" is there in the back of my memory.

You know, considering DG can't  ride a MTB, he did pretty well at the Epic. In fact without him, I don't think KE, would have finished.

Titus, I don't think your argument holds any water.

Ther Epic is Definatly not technical at all. A walk in the park as far as that goes.

Technical in SA, the closest you can get to this is XC lap racing and even this is now being watered down to cater for the roadies.

Ah well hopefully this will bring bigger numbers to the XC races.

DG mentioned the Burry is chubby to me in the car on the way to his 1st Epic, last year. Then DG teamed up with Sauser after their partners dropped out. About halfway thru the epic when he really went well with Sauser he mentioned that he wants to go try ride XC in Beijing. Thats when he decided to start XC racing and found out a few weeks later its a bit different to Epic.

David can do well in non tecnical mtb marathons, but I dont think he will drop Evans.

I think David will have a hard time in next years Epic since we gonna miss the long boring stuff and racing will be more in the Grabouw, Hermanus area, a lot more technical than previous years.
