Jules' date=' true tubeless tyres have thicker sidewalls and bead for a better seal. They are also heavier. But normal tyres works fine.

I discovered this last night. The Nevegal USTs are a B*TCH to get on the rim!

I was also impressed that the front seated and sealed without soap-water, and by only using a floor pump. The back I'll do tonight, since that one didn't play along, and I didn't feel like getting the soap water out at 11pm.

Specialized 2Bliss Fast Track LK and Captain Control offer really good value at the moment at under R320. FPC Paulshof had the Fast Track and Cyclelab had the Captain on Wednesday.

At Dunkeld cycle yesterday they guy said the SPez tyres are not very tough. Thet Fast Track does look like it can do the business. And they asked R460 for it.

I buy cheap road tires from sportsman's warehouse and makro. cost about R70-80 and lasts a few months of training.

I agree. I find that the cheap tyres last just as long as the expensive ones. And seeing as I spend more time training than racing the odds go way up to get punctures and damage your tyres from glass, potholes etc.

So why buy expensive tyres for traing then?

I get get about 4000km on a set of kendas and they only cost about R125

Mini Hijack

What is it with most tyres these days that a person battles to get the tyre on or off the rim. I took my Vredensteins off last nite to weigh my wheels and I almost broke my tubby sticks trying to get the motherf**kers off. I needed 3 sticks to get them off and back onShockedDead

Don't they make rims or tyres to a standard anymore?

No. The Spez tyres are so light that you have to take the tubeless to use with a tube aswell. The non tubeless ones are paper thin and will not last on our trails. That's according to the sales person.

Now that you mention it, I broke 2 tyre levers this morning getting a Kenda Karma off. Had to use Mammie's fancy dessert spoons to get the job done! Fortunately she does not cycle and will never read this. Wink

You guys must have weak hands. Big%20smile You should only need one lever to get a tyre off a rim. Well, that's all I need. Had a good chuckle at the dessert spoons quip,  Big Guy. Haven't heard of that since primary school!

It probably depends on how often the suppliers replenish their stock. If they get in two big shipments a year maybe we have been paying January prices for the first half of the year.

Posted

I think it's the importes who are losing revenue due their shipments being stuck in customs. So they use the R/D exchange rate as an excuse to bump up their profits and the man on the street believes everything they are told and accept it as par for the course.

ok ok this is not cycling related but it is a bit of a ripp off !!!AngryAngryAngryAngryAngry

i bought some electrical wire for my downlights last week at r3 per meter .

on monday this week the same wire from the same roll was r4 per metre.

now i ask you with tears in my eyes that is really jacking prices and i told them exactly what i thought of them.

it happens too often today and we just accept it AngryAngryAngry

Specialized Tyres

Note that the "Control" series of tyres are relatively new and according to the Specialized web site have improved cut/puncture resisitance. There was a pricing anomaly with these tyres for a while and the ones on the shelf at Dunkeld are part of that batch. When they sell those and get new stock it should be back to under R320. They were R295 about 3 months ago and are now R315 or R318. Note that the "Pro" and "S-Works" versions are more expensive than the "Control" versions.

I have run them tubeless on XTR UST rims with Slime and have only had one cut sidewall in about 5000km. Not as bombproof as CrossMarks but dual compound, light, tubeless, work well and exceptional value. Your choice.
