Had a good bike cleaning session this weekend.

Used a chain cleaner, took the cassette off, took the jockey pulleys out, degreased everything and put it all together again.

Used some brushes on the brakes to get all the grit out etc, etc...

Then went over Constantia Nek, on the descent, coming past Izama-Yethu, there was a huge torrent of efluent washing accross the road, which i couldn't avoid, needless to say my bike is dirty again...!

So, going to start over...

My question is, I want to grease the derailleurs, springs, brakes, and bolts, pedals etc, etc.

What grease should I use?

I noticed when I bought the groupsets, there is a luminous green type of grease on everything, I wanted to wash this out and replace it, does anyone know what it is?

Kleen Green works fine. That "grease" that's on the parts when you buy it new is just for packaging. Even a new chain needs to be degreased and then re-lubed before using it for the first time. Shops will tell youotherwise.

Then what grease would you recommend for regular matainance of derailleurs, shifters, bolts etc.

I used clean green before and got some wierd foaming stuff going on, so opted to stop using it..

Now used a standard bio degradeable degrease for chain. a car was type stuff to clean frame and the rinse and oil/grease... works for me and bike seems to enjoy the bath...

Prepsol - It's safe to use on almost everything and pretty cheap R120 for 5lt.

It's used for Dirtbikes so strips of mud like no mans business. Use it sparinly for roadbikes. Mtb needs a little more!

I use a Putoline waterproof racing grease, works pretty well.

Both available from Motorcycle stores.

I would think the limiting screws, pulleys, spring, barrel adjuster, and perhaps between the moving parts (around the armature).

You would not use grease, just some oil. I've got a can of Shimano spray oil. I'm pretty sure it's just 3 in 1 oil with a Shimano label on. And sometimes I just drop a bit on the pivot points. The limiter screw does nothing so they do not need to be lubed. The same with the adjuster barrel. Unless you fiddle with that alot.

prepsol => great but dries out the parts (what i heard)

parafien => works like a charm

put the degreaser in 'n spray bottle, it go much further and works better.

where is JB?
