Do you only want to get them because you like them and they are light or do you have problems with your current ones or your knees? All pedals does the same thing. SOme just cater better for people with bigger wallets.

I tried them busch1 and wasn't a big fan. I have to agree with Mampara that a nice set of Look Keo pedals is probably a better buy and even if you go carbon will be 1/2 the price of speedplay. Also Speedplay not a great idea if you are >80kg's

Are speedplay not easier to "cleat out " or is that just marketing,my wife has battled on occasion and I was thinking of going the speedplay route??

Ok well i recently got a pair of Speedplay Zero pedals, VERY NICE! The float isnt a problem! Cause with the new ones you can adjust them... I would recommend them, and they are very light!

i love my speedplays - and yes, they ARE easier to clip out of, but no, no accidental unclips. they also feel more "stable" than my old Look-compatible welgo's were. they do take a little getting used to to clip in, but if you're not clipped in you can still pedal

Speedplays are my favourites! Have got them on all 3 road bikes. I wish people would check facts before posting - for the zero range only the Nanogram and Ti versions have weight limits.

Likes: Lots of rotational float, dual sided entry, no accidental release, good cornering clearence, light.

Dislikes: cleats costly, but lasts long if you dont walk on them without shoe covers.

Hey, which model speedplay would you suggest for a "newbie".The light action? who actually carries stock in gauteng?

Thanks!

Try get the stainless steel version of whatever Speedplays you get... How much are you willing to spend?

A lady who has never ridden with clipless could consider light action. For a male newbie who is looking for an entry level pedal, the standard Speedplay Zero cro-mo would be an option.

Replacement cleats cost R400 to R500 a set. I get around 20 000km on a set of em - more than I got on Looks, less than I got on Time.

The stainless ones are lighter, & the shiny axle looks nice, if you have got spare cash.

Speedplay are crap in my opinion. I got sold into the whole lightweight nonsene blah blah. I have a digital scale at home which can meaure very light weight. Yes the pedals themselves are ligher tham most (steel pedal equivalent) but as soon as you add the cleat system which you obviously have to use the total system is HEAVIER than most other well known steel pedal/cleats combo's. Also did not like the small surface area you push off. Got heat spots on my feet when i rode hard (intervals) or for more than 3 hours and i have the best cycling shoes you can buy.

I changed to LOOK Keo carbons about 2 weeks later and haven't looked back since.

This is obviously my personal choice but these get a thumbs down for me.
