Harryn' date=' Harryn, I didnt start Hellow Peter and I dont use it either, however there are a number of people who will tell you they recieved justice by the Peter forum - your impression of the forum is irrelevant (as is mine) lets not associate me with something you may disagree with, because I mentioned it as an example.

Theres no such thing as customer fairness and retail decency Harryn,  - I PAY for what I buy, I dont ask for it for free, and because I pay I have a right to demand a service level I expect. I also have a right to complain in any form I choose, somtimes I may just chat to the manager, other times I will complain publicly - its my choice.

............and I furthmore think its rather rich such a comment been stated by Sean, someone who in a position of media power, cannot tell me he has NEVER had a gripe and used the media to make the fact public.!

What amazes me is you propose a "quiet discussion with the manager" about consumer issues - but its fine to crow about, laud over and post on public forums examples of good service and managers who are always smiling.

May I suggest the same applies to the flip side of the coin as well - nobody then make examples of good service known publicly either, rather just go and whisper a "well done" in the manager ear - or dos this not apply here,....................... but only to us "consumer activists".?

Porky, maybe you have had a nasty experience, but with respect, I think your view is jaundiced. Yes, consumers have rights - and they should be vigorously exercised. I do not think anyone has a problem with that. But (SURPRISE SURPRISE!) traders have rights too. The right to their good name and reputation springs to mind.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Now, I am NOT taking a swipe at Steynja, because I actually do not believe that he was motivated by malice, and he has had the guts to apologise to Andrew in public (ClapClap) - BUT I do not believe that it is necessary or indeed ethical to seek to expose a trader in a public forum before making at least one attempt to resolve the issue with the trader concerned. This applies especially to a seemingly insignificant lapse (like not stocking a particular item). Anyway, I do not see how a LBS becomes obliged to stock every esoteric part imaginable (please enlighten me).

Businesses invest huge amounts of time, money and effort in building their brands. When someone sets out to complain in public, this causes immeasurable damage to the brand. I believe that this should always be done with great caution, a degree of respect,  and only as a last resort. As Andrew has shown on this thread, there are honest bike shops out there who genuinely care about customer service, and  who do not deserve to be bad-mouthed on the hub by every Tom, Dick or Harry (oops!)

Lastly, Porky, it is not fair for you to compare customer service levels at Wal-Mart or Pick n Pay with those from a bike shop. Get real.

Harryn, have to agree with you!! The hubbers (a vast amount of them) do not THINK before they post a comment .... Look at the last onslaught of "some" hubbers on the "Price Fixing" debate ... Some hubbers went as far as going out of their way to "personally attack" Andrew M and Fritz P ... even bringing these individuals lifestyles etc. into the debate ... just to apologize a few pages later .... (once all the facts were established)

It shows to me the mentality of some of the hubbers!!

for those of you in the cape, maybe try out weslake cycle lab.

i usually use another bike shop but being a student started shopping around for prices on some stuff i needed done. cycle lab wasn't the cheapest, but they were the cheaper than my usual bike shop; replied to my emails quickly and were close by, so i decided to give them a try.

they gave great service.  so well done to the guys at the westlake branch. maybe the other braches can take a leaf out of your book.

they just got a new workshop manager, Phillipe. i had met him on epic and he really knows what he is doing and is a genuinly nice, laid back guy that will listen to what you want done.

I am quite sure that Andrew is man enough to take my critism in his stride, and look into what can be done to rectify or improve the situation.[/quote']

Did Steynja really win a membership? Wow!

BTW, I have been to CycleLab a few times, and have also found a few young ones that i don't really want to talk bikes with, but the prices have been fair and i thought the shop was pretty well stocked in general....kept me busy browsing for almost an hour.

Thanks, yes I did win a membership on Supercycling last nightThumbs%20Up Now I only need to win a helmet and cycling glasses, then I would have won a complete cycling kit. Some time ago I won a Silverback road bike in the Bicycling mag for letter of the month, then I won a pair of Shimano cycling shoes for the Reader2Reader tip of the month. Now it is the membership and cycling kit! I am a bit of a competition freak, and cannot resist entering competitions, because if you do not enter, you cannot win anything. I did win ?R8500 in the lotto once, but the big one still eludes me. I have been on TV game shows (Noot vir Noot, Flinkdink, Blitsvinnig, Doen met 'n Miljoen, Sporting Chance, Goue Kennis spel etc) about 8 times by now. I have won amongst others a Weber Kettle braai at the lucky draw at a race, I have won a TV, video machines, kitchen appliances, cash, electrical powertools such as an angle grinder, drill etc. I will keep on entering hoping for a big one such as a car, lotto jackpot, overseas vacation etc.
