Is it possible to cut Carbon MTB bars???

Is it possible to cut Carbon MTB bars???Im talking about both half alloy/carbon and full carbon.

A hack saw with a fine blade should work. Then clean up the cut with some sandpaper, eventually using fine paper to finish off the job.

 

Not to sure how you make sure the cut is straight.

It is but if you screw it up then you chuck the bar away, rather take it to your LBS and ask them to do it.

I'm sure you can. But if you have bars that have metal inserts to protect the ends where the bar ends clamp on, you will have a problem.

It is, but cutting carbon release dust that ones enhaled can damage the lunges. Obvisouly you're not doing it for a living, but recent studies have shown it to have the same effect as working with asbestous.

Just wrap some insulation or duct tape around the edges before cutting. It stops it from fraying.

Your LBS will have a carbon cutter and clamp and they usually do it for free / next to nothing. Just measure beforehand, once its cut, its cut

Yep, make sure you use or make a jig!!

 

Remember, measure twice cut once!!

Check with the handlebar manufacturer... Some you can cut, some you can't... Eg, Bontrager Race X Lite (full carbon) you can cut. Race XXX Lite (full carbon too) it is recommended that you don't.

CHECK BEFORE YOU CUT!!! You don't want to destroy a R2000 bar!!!
