The entire global economy is experiencing a shock . This Massive sell off of shares and currency has very little to do with politics in this country. It is also short term and should recover shortly.

We in SA are always skrewed. When the US$ weakens, the Rand falls, when the US$ is stronger, the Rand falls.

The exports will be good for us, but then we sit with a shortfall and we have to import the US crap at double the price!?

I say, skrew the rest of the world and impose sanctions against them. We have all the iron, gold, uranium, diamonds, food etc that we need to survive.

Why do our economy always have to suffer due to the US?

My 2c worth...

At least they're a free market - wait until the Chinese are really in full swing and start using the economic power at their disposal!!

intern sent me an excellent presentation yesterday about the sub-prime crises - so true mate! Bottom line.... we're all Censored

So where's the opportunity? Surely the banking stocks who do not have direct exposure must recover eventually? Investec always had a good business model but made some bad peripheral decisions. Standard Bank remains the best run bank in SA, but will loose value in the face of this global fallout. Many reckon gold is intrinsically undervalued as a safe haven, but this may not necessarily extend to gold mining stocks. Long commodity short producer.

We have shown the world that we can make better and more accurate weapons.

We just need someone to make cycling parts (better than Campy, Shimano, SRAM). Get a local Raleigh manufacturing plant to supply us with the components - Raleigh Shifters, Raleigh Cranks etc.LOL

two problems... we don't have a workforce thats willing to work. I believe there must be so many oppertunities to produce...but, you may not appoint who you want to...and if you do appoint someone, and they don't perform, you can't get rid of them to replace them with someone whos willing to work. Oh, BTW ...ow many car manufacturing plants have closed down since the ANC's cometopower?  And those weapons are probably old tech now! Very oldConfusedConfused

I do not know much about economics but if the Chinese management of their finances are as bad as the workmanship shown by the Engineers in construction we do not have much to worry about. I think their "domination" will last as long as the guarantees they give on products....... exzactly one year and a day!!!!!!!!!
