Hi everyone

I have a old Rock Shox Judy XC that came on my Trek 7000 (2000 year model) with 63mm travel. When I bought the bike Rock Shox had a fork called a Judy 100 which was basically the same fork but had 100mm of travel. There was also a kit that enabled you to extend the travel of the XC model to 80 or 100mm.

Does anyone know if it is still possible to do this conversion or get this kit? Or failing that does any one have a old long travel Judy from that period that might have working internals that I could buy to do the mod. I have stripped the fork and the stanchions and bushes are definitely long enough to do the job.

Internally it uses coil springs in each leg with "Hydracoil" Damping.

This kit is no longer available. Basically you had to put new damper cartridge and neutral cartridge in that could extend the extra 20mm or so.

These shocks had four springs in, 2 in each leg, joined together with a nylon connector, making them effectively one long spring.

The 63mm model and 80mm model used exactly the same springs. The difference came in the damper cartridge and neutral shaft assembly. They were longer. Rock Shox also provided a new spring spacer with that upgrade kit.

Your attempt to find a fork to cannibalise is the right approach. You can't buy this stuff anymore. Even the springs are extinct, but luckily they're very easily made by any spring company.

I have an old Judy Race with 80mm travel which you are welcome to have. It leaks oil like an old Landy yet remained surprisingly plush given it's condition and until very recently I managed to take some nice drops on my hardtail on it. I am based in Somerset West, Western Cape if you know of anyone that can pick it up for you. As mentioned it is corroded and leaks oil but its better than a kick in the shin.
