I have recently put new tires on my Mountain bike, and with the new tires I also purchased Dr Sludge tubes to help my eternal combat against punctures.

Now with the 94.7 coming up I am going to swap my mtb tires for a set of continental slicks and obviously other tubes.

Now comes the question... If I take the MTB tires off, I have to deflate them. Will this cause the sludge to spring into action and "plug the hole"? or can I safely deflate them and change tires without any hickups?

If you leave your bike with the valves at the top for a day, then the sludge will rest away from the valve and then you can deflate your tyres without sludge creating problems.

HOWEVER,

if your valves leaked in the last while, then DR SLudge has sealed your valve.  YOu may have to pump in a little air to push the blockage out.  THis can be dangerous!!!!  I have seen a guy blow his tyres and tubes trying to do this.

position the wheel with the valve just below the midpoint of the wheel. Let it stand for a few minutes...this allows the sludge to drain from the valve...deflate with a tissue in one hand to wipe up the residual sludge which will escape...et voila!

It was hillarious, and once he had exploded his front wheel, he then proceeded to destroy his rear with the same antics.  Groenkloof was a blast that day.
