Never use gels OR bombs

In 8 years of riding (and years of other sports), I have NEVER used gels. I have been following Pornstar's thread on Whasp, now I wonder if I should

Confused. I have been sceptical that they offer any benefit beyond what one gets from using a good energy drink. I use FIT Carbo Supreme which works for me.

 

So- are they better that a good energy drink? Is it just an issue of convenience? What's your experience?

Never use gels in training but always in racing. I generally have 1 half way and then a second about half an hour before the finish. I always use an energy drink (Staminade Endure from Muscle Science lately).

 

However, if the race is easy or I'm cruising to the finish then I don't bother and save the gels for the next race.

I normally race on energy drink and water on the road, and just in case i take a gel halfway through the race. as for the mountain bike, if i dont take the camel back then i take 1 gel every hour, they work for me very well. If i take the camelback then i mix water with energy drink in it and then only take 1 gel or 2 max

i use gel every 45 min.... gives you a lekka boost for the next 45, race with gels and energy drink. But it all depends how aggresively you ride , if your just strolling along you shouldnt need it

They always say that you should never try new stuff for the first time in a race. But if I'm used to FIT energy drinks will it make a difference if I use a FIT gel instead?

i dont think that realy applies to drinks...more to equipment and setup....i dont think itl make a difference, you can always take both to the race

[/quote']Some people get the runs from certain gels, so its best to experiment if you have a sensitive stomache.

Always use gel.Finds it keeps my hair nicely in place for Ronelle's photos.Find goo works best for that spikey look.Others don't wash out so easily.

Yoh! LOL. Didn't see that one coming. Have you ever used gel for the helmet hair look on days you haven't ridden? Ultrahold works well. LOL

Ronelle can you please confirm if you are going to be at Killarney this week as it is the only reason that i and a lot of others go.(what can i say,i'm a camera SLUT)

Yang...i only race on Gels (GU espresso love is the only one i can stomach though) and water...works like a bomb. And just for an extra if i get hungry i take a jungle bar with, but 90% of the time that's just extra weight as i get to the end without having eaten thatSmile

On a 100km race I usually take 3 gels and two bananas and alternate them. The bananas help keep my stomach full while giving energy (usually for on the hills where I need a quick booster).

Bombs work excellent...a great time and energy saverThumbs%20Up, but with a weight penalty
