What about the old adage that "A POMP"S A POMP OU PEL" sorry that is something totally different.

Give Agteros a bit of slack guys. I think I could of been in the same boat if I did not have mates that where encouraging me to ride and made an effort to invite me along on all their training rides and had the patience to coach me on all the funny lingo and terminolgy in this strange but wonderfull sport.

But of course there has to be a but that once you have been shown the ropes it then becomes your turn to show someone else the ropes.

So come on guys somebody just help the dude out. Invite him on a hub ride and teach him a thing or two.

KD' date=' I think we all agree that the bike shop guy made a mistake. I don't believe it was a malicious one, but an honest one. It is also an easy one to make. The tubes come in similar boxes and the only distinguishing mark is a line of print on the box. That's that and it doesn't make the shop a bad one.[/quote']

johan, i don't think it was malicious either, but most of the tubes we stock have a picture of the type of valve on the top of the box.

Wonder how many other people have got themselves into trouble over a pomp
My best mate did and they're still married.

Why don't you all cut the guy a bit of slack.. a lot of us were lucky to have cyclist friends to help us along.  I would've been to embarrassed to ask my lbs how a pump works.. it should be pretty obvious' date=' until you hit the presta/schrader snag ConfusedWink [/quote']

Surely the same applies to the LBS. To take the wrong tube is an easy mistake to make. To burn them at the stake on a public forum for that is not cool.

I just think he should give them a call and say.....Hey guys, you know what dumb ass mistake you did.

A little story:

Me riding Babba's, bliksemed down right after a water crossing from a flat I got right before the water crossing. Full of mud. Change the tube with effort. Realise that my newly purchased pump is on Schrader. Battle for 6 MIN to flip it around, because mud is everywhere. The fact that I clipped my nails the evening before did not help either. Who can I blame? Only myself, as I did not check everything before the race. Even forgot the CO2 cartridge, which should heve been there. I could have had a podium if I was PROPERLY PREPARED. But I was not, and as such still have a lot to learn. Looking back I can laugh about it, and I have learnt the valuable lesson of being prepared. And there will be other races in the future...

I could have plugged the hole in the tire with it. But I could not get it out. I remember the one nostril being totally clogged and the other one running freely!

I once threw a 24" tube into my Camelbak by mistake before a ride. 20kms down the trail you can only guess what happened...

Personally, I think the guy has a right to be miffed, when I buy something, I expect it to be right for the job, its not as if they (the LBS) didnt know what tube to use, they just didnt care or pay sufficient attention to what they sold him.

I could be cynical and say, "they maybe didnt have the right tube in stock, so just sold him the incorrect tube, hoping he would forget about it, or they could sort out the issues later".

I also think its a poor show to NOT show him how to use the pump, everybody is always on a mission to say, "go to your LBS they will give you the right advise", well they didnt and now everyone defends them - he may as well just have bought on-line and saved himself 20%.!!
