What do I do at work now?

Doesn't Absa sponsor a lot of sport in SA? Like a heck of a lot of sport? Would think they'd encourage employees to show an interest in sport too. Obviously within reason.

One of the best things about working for yourself is that you don't have any flippen rules to abide by! Ah, it's stopped raining, think I'll go for a ride now...Big%20smile

That's what cell phones are for. My work allows 1 hour of private internet access per day. If I run out' date=' I simply log on to the Hub with my cell phone.

Most cell phones have internet access. I downloaded a very nice program called Mini Opera and it makes surfing the net so much easier.

ya, the HTC is on its way! Was looking at getting modem/G3 etc. Decided stuff that, mobile is the way to go. You can access the Internet through the phone! My work actually prevent us from downloading , and sites like Facebook. Since they did that, the net is actually much slower, because the people are working too hard nowLOL

Try this:

Start > Run > cmd > ENTER

type: "ping thehubsa.co.za"

right-click > Mark

Select the I.P. Address > Right-click

Open IE

Press CTRL+V > ENTER

The page may not load all the way, but you should be able to log in.

Or try:

Open IE

Type in address bar: "https://www.vtunnel.com"

Type in search box: "https://www.bikehub.co.za"

This uses the secure network on V Tunnel (a proxy server)

Sasol, my employer, makes use of a program called websense. AFIK that program is absolutely failproof. If I try something like V Tunnel as mentioned, a message just comes on in your web browser informing you "The Websense category Proxy Avoidance is filtered" and then you cannot continue. We also cannot access sport, religion, political parties, motoring, job search, social networking (like Facebook), peer-to-peer downloads, hacking, personal websites, entertainment etc. I can carry on, but I think you get the point. Sasol has this weird policy that you have to actually work during the day. Also your line manager get a monthly report of all your online activity which includes the amount of internet traffic you generated, the names of the websites you have visited and the total time you have spent on the internet. One of the more serious offenders once spent a total of 35 hours of a 40 hour week on the internet! Needless to say his service was terminated.

Aaah yes, Websense. Can't you at least use your daily 60min of quota time to Hub?

Our Websense database seems to reset itself occasionally, blocking our clients', our suppliers' and, at one stage, even our own websiteTongue

Here are a few options that you can try:

1. You can try accessing 'The Hub' via a site called Unblockall...

2. You can further block your web surfing from prying eyes of co-workers.., etc.., by using a nifty little tool called Vanishd.., which lets you hide one webpage behind the other and gives you small custom-sized viewing window that you can drag around and see the contents of the hidden page... To hide your viewing window.., simply move your mouse off the browser window or right-click it.., which then hides the viewing window and displays a cover page which can set to show an office document (Word.., Excel.., PowerPoint.., etc...)

3. If that does not work you can try WebToMail.., which you email the URL of the site you want to view and it will soon reply with the webpage attached... This service does not allow you to login to sites.., only view their content...

4. There is a similar service called MoDazzle that will allow you to access sites like Facebook.., amongst others.., that you can access via email or sms...

If the first option does not work.., options three or four will at least give you the ability to keep updated on the happenings of 'The Hub' while you are at work... Hope this helps...

Just bare in mind that doing any of those would, if you're caught, likely result in disciplinary action or dismissal for violating the company's internet policies.
