  1. For all those who think he got a fair sentance - feel free to become his mate here http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=678342255&sk=wall For those of us who stick together when one of our own gets killed by a drunken ass on the road - my sincere condolences to the family who lost a member of their family doing what he loved most.
  2. Not sure if my post showed... Try the - e-rudy.com website and look at the free gear offer!! I am getting all the free stuff with my order, Helmet, spare lenses, hydration pack etc etc. But I ordered photo chromatic prescription lenses - so mine were a bit more expensive. But free stuff costs more than my order...
  3. Anyone prepared to offer some advice?! I know I did post it as 03:44 ZA time!
  4. I need some help in choosing a mountain bike for the TransRockies in 2012. I need your help...
  5. 'Cept I am living there at the moment - so feel free to say hi if you pop by! Agree about the riding - need to work on my technical skills!
  6. I need something to focus towards - and nothing does it quite like a hard ass scary ride!!
  7. Has anyone out there done the TransRockies? I am keen to do in next year - so am starting to put together some info. I would be keen to find out from any others who have done it. I have also begun to update my blog with the new direction of completing it in 2012!! Anyone else thinking of doing it?
  8. You should do that - got more than enough room if you need a place to stay - not as far north of Barrie - but if you got your bike with you there are loads of riding options here!!! Seriously though - more than welcome!
  9. Got transferred with work - got to be here for at least 2 years. Enjoying the change of scenery though! Had enough of winter - left ZA at the end of winter and headed straight back into winter here in Canada - I am almost reflective now!!!
  10. I am about 1 hr north of Toronto. In the rural areas - cannot wait till summer as their are loads of trails and forests in this area.
  11. Snow has hardend a bit along most of the trails. On the steeper uphills the snowmobiles churn it up a bit so makes difficult and too thick in places. Riding on the hard-packed snow is same as gravel as base is solid - quite weird in places as frozen base creaks - this trail will be SERIOUSLY muddy when the snow melts. I have seen the studded tires - but these are for serious guys who ride on the more icy surfaces where there is no grip - Crazy IMHO. Saw one of these on the snow slopes once! Big takkies! http://www.bikerumor.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/moots-snoots-snow-bike01.jpg
  12. Been a while since I was on the Hub since I moved to Canada. Just thought I would share some pics of my ride on the weekend! I could not stay indoors any longer so finally hit the trails near my house - riding at -10deg was a whole new experience. My water bottle began to freeze at the end of the ride and my booties were solid at the end of the ride too. These were the only 2 images I could get as my phone crashed because of the cold!!! But I had a total blast!! So anyone who is thinking that Sani mornings may be cold this year... This was the beginning of the trail near my house The snowmobiles smoothed things out to a degree. Cheers Roons
  13. Blah blah blah! We all like the cars we drive and it is a matter of choice. This a a cycling forum now stop comparing the size of you manhoods! Ivor - get a "Holdfast' towbar extension - the longest one they have will clear the rear tyre and then you can use whatever rack you are happy with - Thule seems to be best value for money - I bought the 4 bike one and never has a day's trouble. Do a Google search and find Holdfast website - most bike shops will be able to get one for you. DO NOT MOUNT YOUR BIKE RACK ON A DEFENDER DOOR - The wheel alone on these is a design flaw - the bike rack will warp you rear door and give endless trouble.
  14. A friend (lady) of mine has a titanium frame that she does not want to part with however she wants to upgrade the components. What would you recommend for the following... Groupsets: She seems sold on Shimano... Seat: A lady seat? Pedals: She rides well but is not a pro so I have suggested mid-range rather than top end. Any suggestions appreciated.
  15. How come guys like these are so brazenly allowed to exist? This bike is less than half the retail price - cannot be for real. http://www.crafts-road.com/products.php?product=Specialized-Epic-Expert-Carbon-2010-Bike
  16. Does that, by default, classify you as a clumsy oaf? Miss you AGAIN at Sani this year!
  17. Live and work in Bryanston - happily pop by and pick it up to take out there. But will only get to the Farm next weekend - riding in the Hilton area this weekend!
  18. About to go shopping for the Mrs... Her intention is to do the 94.7 and Argus, so plans to get into the training thing a bit more seriously. In the past she has only ridden a mtb, but I feel a road bike would suit her best for the above events (obviously). However I only ride a mtb... Do do I get her a mtb (and slick it for the above events) or road bike and get her to use her old crappy bike for our rides together? I know most would say take the gap and get yourself another bike too - has crossed my mind!
  19. 45km/h for Sunday in CT and Cape Point.
  20. I find your signature in relation to your purchase a little amusing - you said what??
  21. Check out this crazy video of the messengers in NYC racing on their bikes. And we though riding around Jozi on the roads was dangerous! You will need Quicktime installed. WARNING - 50MB video. http://www.digave.com/videos/red-web.mpg
  22. Any ones between 2.0 and 1.8 that shed mud well. I am fitting a 1.8 Specialized Strom. The mud at the bottom it clay and sticks like glue - some hopefully these will help. The issue is also the clearance between your rear wheel and rear stay - that got jammed with crud very quickly. But conditions were so bad last year that nobody was riding - so do not stress over tyres...
  23. The thule 4 bike rack with the towbar extension. Works like a dream on the back of my landy defender. I cant remember who makes the extension for the towbar - do a google search for a towbar extension. The crowd based in CT
