Electronic music is about the fastest evolving of all' date=' mainly because a killer record can come from a kid playing on his PC, not some git with no talent making hit after radio hit (mostly written by someone else) just because MTV put them out there.

My 2 cents worth...[/quote']

And I thought they knew bugger all about music, now I know it! And now I also know why I usually don't watch MTV.

erm, it's THE mtv. Don't you know ANYTHING? Wink

hehe, that's rockin' man! (or is it ravin'?) Love that System F vid, two schmucks doing crazy moves all over the show. Reminds me of the stupid mad stuff we used to do as kids, didn't have a care in the world. I remember (barely) once going up to Northcliff hill, wearing a tux, passing out there with g/f waking up with the sun coming up. Mad...

No offence to you guys but the stuff you all talking about here is not rave music its more like acid/garage house bordering on commercial house at best.

They wouldnt and didnt play a quarter of these tunes in the proper underground clubs in in the 90's in Cape Town like Boiler Room, Deviate, Power Station, Nexus, G-Spot Lounge  and they never played them at any Pharcyde parties or Rave Nation events.

Here are some that were played:

jam and spoon right in the night
dreams-quench
burning-?
liquid sky-xtc
keep trucking
its not over yet
feel what you want(champion records)
amen
bits and pieces
to the beat of the drum, bang bang-(effective records)

erm good point colonel, mind you I never really knew what was what genre-wise, just knew what I liked! They did play some of this stuff in ESP, Nexus, those dens of iniquity out at Stonewater and Hideout...that dodgy hole in the wall at Cresta, Gecko Lounge...

Boiler Room... went there once' date=' loved it. Nothing comes close to ol 330 though.

Nexus is now ESP Nexus, or just ESP.

The Nexus Im talking about was in Cape Town and owned/run by Steve and his sidekick Emilio(sp)

There is a big difference to house and rave and most clubs played house or a hard hitting house that still rocked the boat in a big way and people went off their heads.

We partied at 330 twice, we flew up from CT to go with the owners of Tilt (no names mentioned) to party for the weekend and then they would come here to cape town and do the same and eventually the owners opened a Tilt in CT but never really worked.

330 was good alittle dingy but good.

Ah Tilt, that was another good one. 330 decor wise was never going to win awards, but for it's vibe and sound it always had a top rep.

"Rave" is term that was thrown around to define electronic music, trance was the first form of this.

Thats why today the most accurate definition is EDM, of which house is a product.

Most of what now deemed 'classics' are the old trancey and housey tracks from the MOS, Topstar and Camel days.....

Still, gotta say I'm pleasently surprised to see a number folk on here who are/were in the scene, so to speak.

Back then and Im talking '93 - '98 were good days for clubbing and hard house music and warehouse raves. Now days its a dodge hole and the music is so commercial you might aswell E-out in your car with the heater on listening to 5FM.
