Ok, the mavic's are out of the question now... Are the SLX's durable enough for someone weighing 85kg's to ride for a few years or would it be better to go for the SL's which are meant to be stronger?

I have the Racing 3's, very happy with them. I bought them before the rand crashed though and the JJ Cycling retail price is way too high in comparison with other brands. Either try and get them at the old price or imported.

If you import think about buying the replacement spoke kit from CRC, might come in handy in the event of a crash.

You have to understand, I'm really clueless about these things, never had the need to replace my wheels, but now I am I'm looking for input from ppl who know a lot more than I do... I considered the ES because they would look good on my Tarmac and I'd seen a lot of them on the road, not because I knew enough about them to know if they would last or not.

BTW... Thanks everyone for all the input, it's really not helping my decision too much as it sounds like they'll both be great wheelsets so think the final decision might just be based on the best price I can get.

But still your best option would be a set of custom built wheels. Open pro rims, DT spokes and you're choice of hubs. My next wheels will be custom built American classic 350 rims with DT spokes and Ultegra hubs. Lighter, stiffer, more durable and way cheaper than any of your current options.

I have the Fulcrum 3's, they are a great wheelset, I have had no hassles at all, they roll very well and are stiff and bomb proof,  I use them for training and racing.

I bought them last year at a great price new and have not looked back.

So much so I bought the Fulcrum Red Metal 3's  for  my MTB, also a great wheel also bomb proof and roll well.

You can't go wrong with the Fulcrum choice.

shaun one of my buddies has a set of fulcrums that were ridden over by the hi Q team car last year all that was wrong as a broken spoke and it needed a bit of trueing if that doesnt make a wheel good then i dont know what will!!!!

lol, that is a pretty good advert for a wheel, but been offered a pretty good deal on the Easton's which is quite hard to refuse at this point as I need to make my decision and get the wheels in time to test them before the double century.

Mud Dee, what kind of price would that AM Classic & Ultegra hub wheelset cost?
