The Saint Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Please can someone help me out.Prepping my MTB for Saturday I have found a big thorn in the tyre which has snapped off. I have the tyre sealent in the tubes - do I dig out the thorn or just leave it?Then what would the correct tyre pressure be for Saturdays race. Thanks

DawieO Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Pump the wheel really hard, take the thorn out and spin the wheel so the hole is at the bottom, allowing the sealant to get in it. If it doesn't work, there are 1 of 2 problems, hole is too big, or sealant is old. Put new sealant in the wheel, pump it really hard and repeat. If still no joy, tube the wheel or get a new tyre. Joe Low Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 You're in luck Mux - Dr Low is in the house. The best thing is to get many more thorns and insert them all over your tyre until you can't see the rubber. This way there is no chance that you will pick a thorn up on the day and ruin your race with a puncture. Also this is very good chinese medicine - acupuncture for mtbs, it means your bike will be very relaxed and be able to give up smoking. I recommend you pump the tyre just short of the pressure needed to pop the thorns out.
