I picked up a box of Kiwi and the Pepto Protien from Jeff at the Expo. Have never used either of these flavours before, but have used the other ones many times.

Took my first protien gel in the start pen, and i loved the taste! i honestly thought it tasted like a crunchie chocolate bar (that delicious yellow honeycomb stuff they put inside the bar), so im not sure where the vanilla comes in, but hey as long as it tastes good. It went down really well, and i felt great the whole way along the M1. Took a kiwi gel in the town section, and apart form the cobbles making me spill half of it down my leg, i really didnt mind it at all. Its not great tasting, but its not like its going to make you spew. I could easily swallow it, and after a sip of water it was gone. Once again i felt strong all the way to Witkoppen, where i sucked down my next protein gel. Might have been a little late, as my legs were suffering on the climb, and i just lost the bunch at the top. But when it kicked in i was back in the race, and was pacing a large group of riders along the N14 section. Took my last Kiwi gel just after we turned off the highway, and again it was like a turbo boost. I felt great along the long drags, and the final few hills, and i came in with a pretty good time of 2h26.

I think they work really well, so well that i was pushing harder than my muscles would allow. I had plenty of energy, but was cramping really badly in the last 5km. My legs just wouldnt work, even though they had lots of reserves. Considering the training (or lack thereof) ive done in the last month, with exams and work pressure, i was really counting on a 2;40 if i was lucky, but in the end the gels must have done thier job, because i felt great the whole way.

Well done Collin, you are onto a great thing here, and i think as long as they work you will have customers. Ill certainly reccommend them to everyone, and will definitly keep buying them in future.

Thanks for the feedback, a lot of people cramp because they riding way too hard as they feel way too good on our gels...you still need to be realistic...good time though on little training

I'm really keen to get my hands on the new Whasp protein gels.

I have in the mean time tried out the Energy gels and they defnitely work. I've used various brands of gels in the past, mostly for endurance trail runs and generally go with GU, GT or Hammer. Of the three I prefer the Hammer gel, but it's relatively expensive and the packaging is fairly large. The GU I find really hard to swallow so I end up having to 'mouthwash' the gel with water which I find tough when my heartrate is relatively high and the GT seems to lack the kick I'm looking for.

What I really like about the Whasp gels is that they are really easy to swallow (which may also have a downside since I find on long events gels in general tend to hammer your stomach after a large dose (1 ull gel), I tend to dilute them in a water bottle if my gut is feeling a bit dodge and sip regularly). I'm yet to use the Whasp gels on a really long outing but that will happen fairly soon.

The only issue I have with Whasp is the packaging, I find it a bit big and I've had one or two not open when you tear off the top tab (could just lead to litter as you're now dealing with two torn off sections that you have to stash, along with the main gel section)

I'm busy testing out a couple of gels (both riding & running) for an event (trail run) and Whasp defnitely is top choice at this point.

Great product!

Howzat Collin,

Jo and I also used your gels, we used a similar pattern Zaskar did - I just timed them every 30 min - I felt strong all the way through. Taste wasn't great but my mom made me eat worse tasting foods when I was young.

Jo's experience wasn't good, she started feeling crap near the end of the race and had seriaaaas stomach cramps after the race and even the next day. Not sure why we reacted so differently - Jo will not use them again as she felt crap for a long time after the race. We both got 8th in elite ladies and VA, respectively.

Flemish its normally a case of a few things...i dont think it was only the gel as we have never had such a severe reaction to them...caffeine might have helped the affect along but i dont it was only the gel..there isnt anything in there that could do that..unless she is allergic to something we got inside....check out the classifieds section for whasp christmas special

Everyone that rides with me regularly will know that i have been telling them to use Whasp gels since waaay back Big%20smile

I also signed up for the protein deal at the 94.7 expo, however I did not use any gels during my 94.7 race.

I will try it out during my next race or hard training ride and give some feedback.

Christmas deal is for everybody...

obviously. but rather bold to offer him some when he tells you about the problems they had.

alas "if something gives you trouble, take some more of it!"
