TiBones Posted November 17, 2008 Share Hey there, can anyone help? I run a 52t big ring on a Sora Triple front group. I find that I run out of gearing on even a small downhill and would like to be able to pedal a bit more. Is there, and can I fit, a bigger ring to the existing group without having to change the FR or other components.
Delgado Posted November 17, 2008 Share Dont think you can! I could not change the middle ring from a 42 to a 39!! Rather alter your cassette ratio? Surely a 52-11 will be more than enough?
Pantani Posted November 17, 2008 Share get a 11-23/25 cassette or a 53t chainring on the front. most people ride a 53t chainring. you should be able to change it...
Red Zone Posted November 17, 2008 Share If you have a clamp on FD you would just have to move this up the tube a bit. a easier and cheeper option is Delgado's suggestion, put a new cluster on the back with an 11 tooth.
Gman1834 Posted November 17, 2008 Share What cassette are you running, a change on the cassette will make more of a difference than a bigger front gear. Tankman Posted November 17, 2008 Share I have a Most compact crank 50/34, came with new Pinarello Ultegra SL derailleurs.I saw on Most website that there are compact sets of 52/36 available. After some investigation and a lot of trips to cycle shops, I found that the BCD needs to be 110mm instead of the normal 130mm, otherwise it does not fit - to bigThen I found a FSA 52 ring with 110mm BCD!! Gman1834 Posted November 17, 2008 Share Cool, now to save for a compact crank, and then to start looking for a 52 or 53 110mm BCD Blade.
Tankman Posted November 17, 2008 Share Looks like FSA would be the easiest to gethttp://www.winstanleysbikes.co.uk/product/5863/FSA_110mm_BCD_Road_Chainrings
TiBones Posted November 18, 2008 Share Thanks all! So.... I've organised a 11-23 on the back and a 53 big blade for the front. Watch out Jan Ulrich!!
