Azonic, I'm not trying to pick a fight either. It's just disturbing that
you guys were obviously breaking the law and now you call the driver of the bakkie a "right asshole" and an "idiot" and you're trying to shift the blame on the driver for "not waiting 10 seconds".

It's situations like this that gives us a bad name. It's already dangerous on the roads, don't make it worse for us

Re Captain Slow:
That's a good argument you make, BUT I feel that it would be better to rather break the group into smaller groups. [90% of the guys in the big group are wheelsucking anywayLOL] The problem with cycling in such a big [full lane] group is this: what happens if you're going around a blind corner at 30kph and a car [truck!!!] comes around from behind at 100kph? will he be able to stop in time? Ouch

Riding in single file is not always the "lekker" thing to do, but the law is there for a reason.

Ok' date=' let me give some more details. 200 meters past the point where he overtook us, the road gets straight and widens quite a bit. What get me angry is not that he overtook us, its that he overtook us at a point that was unsafe to us AND himself. He just could have waited for 10 seconds behind the group and everyone would have been safe.[/quote']

Azonic, not fighting BUT

1. Your bunch was to big taking up the whole lane. WRONG

2. Driver overtook at dangerous point. Wrong but fedup   with cyclist ignoring rules of the road.

Get your house clean before blaming a motorist for his wrongs. Your bunch endangered yourself, the motorist and oncomming cyclists.

Jeez, why is everyone calling it MY bunch if I was sitting RIGHT AT THE BACK on the left shoulder of the road? Find out who was pacing the bunch and give them stick, eh?

FACT: It is illegal to ride two abreast (or 3,4,5 or 6) so the argument about taking up as much space as a truck is stupid.

I agree about a protest ride ........ all motorists should meet at Arlington and it will start from there, at least 300 cars and bakkies!!!

Hey I was also in the bunch in fact right next to Azonic. Bunch was big and guy in the bakkie should of waited a few seconds as what he did was really dangerous as he over took us on a blind bend over a soild line causing 2 cyclist coming from the other side to stop and get out of his way

Just had a call from Dirty Twin. Chris was coming down Villiers Road and the cop was coming up towards him and turned into 8th Avenue in front have Chris who then had nowhere to go so T-boned the cop. Chris has a broken thumb which will need pins. Not sure of any damage to his bike or ego at this stage.

Glad to hear it's not that serious.

Is there a stop street where 8th ave and Villiers road intersects?

Yes there Wisecrack but it is for traffic entering Villiers from either side of 8th and both the vehicle and the rider were coming down Villiers.

thank you for the details and update Spud - hope the op goes well AND that the careless driver gets dealt with appropriately by karma
Thanks Slowpoke.........it would have to be Karma as he is a cop and well......whats left to say.

Never a good to hear about one of us being taken down, Hope the guy is OK.

Smaller groups would make it a little easier I think especially on Marine Drive over the last few Ks from Willows due to blind rises and corners, Even a better Idea, get the council to actually build a proper cycling lane round Marine drive and Sea View road.

Just my 2 cents worth.Smile

Not Villiers but Fordyce Road the rest is correct.

Chatted to Chris about 20 minutes ago all is well except for the thumb = very sore and a bit of a headache helmet is totally trashed. Wont go down the whole helmet thing just now TNT1 is watching me.

Its all been gone over before and of course we can be pleased injuries are minimal, but we should never compare a slow moving truck and trailor with a slow moving bunch of cyclists. The implication is always that a motorist waits behind a truck, but wont wait behind a bunch of cyclists so the motorist is impatient and inconsiderate to the cyclists.

However we must remember a truck and trailor has nowhere to go, its using up the lane because of its size, not because the driver is inconsiderate, motorists know this and accept it.

Cyclists using up a lane ARE been inconsiderate, because they can minimise their profile on the road by riding single file or at most two abreast - motorists know this as well and expect cyclists to do so - so when we dont, we have issues.!
