Slave, why did you not tell me those long bib tights are not kevlar reinforced? smiley13.gif

I had to find that out the hard(sore) way in Sunday morning in Randfontein smiley19.gif when, next to the show grounds (where they hold the largest agricultural show), I bought a farm.

Hey! Now you owe me that farm gate of yours so I can keep the sheep in(or out)

details: I stuck my front wheel in some soft sand while making a u-turn, and came down, gash in the right knee, crack in  the helmet but all ok actually!

Eish Oxman. You broke your new tights. Dude, you best make a plan and get them to me so Mrs. Slave can fix for you. Glad you're ok though. Looks like you need to get a new helmet the dude. What other damage?

Kid, my bottom bracket and bearings are shot. Threads on the bike are a bit worn so Peejou is officially on the critcal / terminal list. Her health has failed along with my legs.

Getting my ass kicked and dropped on the steps was a very humiliating thing for me. I struggled my wheels off to make a go of it, but I just seemed to lack the energy. I got tired halfway up, so I guess it's back to secret training for me to get my old "form" back.

I actually had to spend a wee bit of time pushing my mates wife around so the legs were a bit tired and overworked by the time we hit the steps. Maybe that's a good excuse for my lack of form.

Now that I have a new ride, I'll have to justify myself by going hard next time out.

Arrgrhhh it is only an itsy bitsy weeny teeny little whole on the right knee cap, nuffink a bit of rudamentary stitching cannot fix smiley1.gif

At least it has some character now, and I've had my 'first' fall on the road bike... rather @ <10km/h than @ > 30km/h

gotta say I rode with 'my' bikes cousin which has a 523 teeth chainring (not 50), and it made a HUGE difference on top speed. first time I could get above 70 on only a slight(ish) downhill - no mine shafts needed!

The pilot an I will be swopping bikes now, coz she was very comfortable on the 54cm .. I'm very happy swopping for the 56cm smiley2.gif

Sorry guys and gals but I have again hung that roadbike thing up in the garage to be dusted off again some time in the future ......

Rode the faithful old MTB yesterday and all held up well so I guess I am back to the 'dirt' woohoo!

Nancy I think you should start doing more roadie stuff.

Have you never heard of MiniMe ?

One difference is that I was way naughtier than him.

In the mean time email me 3 months bank statements of your account' date=' just want to make sure you can afford him.

E-mail sent.  I don't know what my earnings are gonna look like though when he turns 21.  I was kinda hoping that he'd be able to 'keep' me smiley2.gifsmiley4.gif

But I'll start saving just in case

Oh.. and maybe I'll join you guys again before my road wheels go 'pap'

In the meantime, like BB.. I'm back to my MTB

Bliksem dude. 523 teeth. Must be a moerse chain ring. It will make a huge difference. smiley17.gif

Revenge is not sweet. It's a thing of beauty. I have to watch what and how I type aroung here and you have taught me a new skill. Check for da uvva ou's typo's and then yank the leg right off. (Never mind pulling the leg.)

I can relate to your "tumble". I was testing the project Walter bike on Friday night, (or was it Thursday). I neglected to tighten the quick release skewer on the back wheel enough and it "dropped out", instantly locking and tossing me over the handle bars. Eish. Also happened at very low speed.

And then on Saturday, wneh I got to Rietvlei, Mini-me (kids kid) was sitting on that low wall at the entrance patirntly waiting for us. My front wheen also bit into some sand and over I went. Luckily at VERY low speed and I managed to put my hand out onto the low wall and prevent myself from getting a mouth full of sand.

Did you manage to sort out that loose saddle of your (or was it the cousin)?

So the relationship must have grown some over the weekend. Swapping cousins now are we? You know that in some countries that is illegal?

yeah you all tought I was strong (meanwhile I was riding a 50tooth chainring... smiley36.gif) so I decided 'go big or go home'

Spoke to an engineering shop and the made that 523 toothed beast especially for me... problem now is that I am on a unicycle with two training wheel high up in the air!

Guess I'll have to go back to a 52 teeth chainring for some normal cycling!

Swoppping cousins is OK in France (from what I can gather) smiley36.gif

Slave what happened to the Peugeot?

Delgado. Long story, but bear with me. Some time ago, (a few years) I noticed the crank was "creaking", so I opened it up. The left side race was shot. Bought new set at cycle shop and replaced all the bits (both sides.)

Went for test ride and the left side race "pooped out of place" and the carnk was all loose. So wnet back to th LBS and they told me that the parts were not exchangable and they only had one size (universal bearings and races.) The right hand side fitted perfectly.

So went to another bike shop and bought more. Only changed LHS bearings and race. (Oh, I replaced the crank axle, at the same time as first bearing set.)

Same drama. Resortedto using Old race with new bearings until I managed to get a replacement older set from my mate Chris.

Replaced the race and it was in for quite a while until it also started to creak. (Bearing in mind they were well used before I got hold of them.)

Then in Jan, I changed the race and bearings again and all was well until Wed. I was pulling waya from a top street and the bearing just went "Clunk".

I suspect that I have damaged the threads on the frame from saturdays ride and a combination of taking out and preplacing races so often.

I can get it fixed, but at what price. Such an old bike, is it worth it?

I'm considering options, but leaning heavily towards giving you the frame mate.

Hey guys a bit late but thanks for the ride, I really enjoyed it immensly!!

Nancy, it was sooooo great to see you again. Damn, we must do this more often be it on the road or in the bush.

Oxman, was good to meet you and thanks everyone else for a fun ride...Joe L, you were most certainly on form in the coffee shopsmiley4.gif

BB, I was under the impression that he might want to "restore an old classic" for his collection.

Otherwise, I might just "maak n plan" to get it fixed so I can use it to train on and save the newgate for races. (Train on a heavy bike and race a lighter one.)

Any wisdom in that one "dad"?
