Spoke to some buddies and all slower than last years time.

Seems like new loop is a little tougher.

Thanks Kieran and make no excuses as many a cyclist today lined up after many years of riding and you were either on par or finished ahead of them.

This is cycling.

Good to hear you are so positive about the sport, keep it up and hoping to meet you soon on one of the rides on of these days.

Hey guys!

Seems everyone I spoke to yesterday was unhappy with their 94.7 time! Myself included! Actually, I really dissapointed with my time. 2h42min, I wanted to go under 2h30...but realised that was not going to happen while we were going along the N1 south!

D group was alright, apart from the odd idiot who cant keep his line! Saw Trubie in the start paddock, and he was very attentive along the N1 South.

How hard is that rise past Ponte?! Myself and 2 others forced the pace up there and the following hill...but it wa not enough to shake the bunch...and I certainly did not want a day of hard pacing with that wind, so I was rather gratefull it was all together.

Coming off the Krugersdorp Highway, I was pulling on the front as we approached the offramp...I stood out of my saddle and the guy behind me was overlapping and went straight into my back wheel. He did apologise, but I managed to unclip and land on my 'gentle parts'...which was eina!

By the time we swung off the highway and took that left turn I was trying to find some form of rhythm and those last 15km were painfull!!

But, its not all negative...the race was a pleasure, the road closure was amazing...the marshalls were excellent...the finish area is good.

But....

Where the hell were the shuttles to take you back to your cars on Maxwell drive? Our walk back to the car took an hour. That really upset me.

Anyway....how was everyone else's race? I know Slave was unhappy. But it was tough route, make no mistake! I did enjoy it....

Hi G.O.; Slave came past me on the highway towing a little bird along with him.  I was wasted and I cant say I was pleased to see him or anyone else with a "P" on their back.

Must say he was looking good so when the dust settles the time will look a lot better to him.

Spaso I'm going off just after you at 8:41. Put your Hub name on your race number and we can pull each other along smiley2.gif haha!

Slave that was me smiley1.gif rode to the bridge over the highway and back. Felt bad for not doing the steps (not so keen doing them alone...) so went through the flat hills above Glenvista Golf course on the way back smiley2.gif

Must meet up to get my top from you haha

Good luck to all ASGR guys and girls riding this weekend!

Dude' date=' you can't go around telling people I have articles of your clothing. They will all make assumptions which we know are the fother of all muck-ups.[img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley7.gif[/img]

Joe, looks can be deceiving and in this case, I assure you sir, they were.

I was pretty tired myself.

The race for me was a series of strange events starting with not finding a "P" bunch to ride with for the first 15 K. I did manage to hook into one on the climb up the Parktown ridge and hung on with them for a bit. Eventually getting my slow ass dropped on the run to Rosebank. It was a tiny bunch of about 6 or 8.

By the time I got to TOC going past Ponte, I knew I was already in trouble time-wise. I was never going to make three hours. The climb up Curse O' Gowrie was murder. Ponte was hard enough but eish, going past Sunnyside hotel was sheer agony. Mademe very thankfull for all those laps around SBR. I would have been smiley11.gif without that part of my training.

Also took some major strain on the climb up to Randburg and past the Lion Park on (Was it) Malibongwe.smiley18.gif

The Kdorp PTA highway hurt too and the wind just seemed to be at me every direction I went. smiley18.gif

I was very grateful when we turned off the highway and headed towrds the home stretch. Heartbrake hill did exactly that to me and once I recovered from that it was pretty much grinding it out to the finish.

The entire race consisted of finding gaps in the traffic to pass many other riders and I think I passed a few in D and C groups as well..

My time of 3 hr 14 was way below my expectations and I was bitterly disappointed in my performance and extremely p!ssed at myself.

Then I saw the results for P group this morning and they don't look too bad after all.

Conclusion, I will never be a sub three so I guess I will always just be a wannabe.smiley9.gif

Joe Low! Hope you enjoyed your race dude...I know everyone suffered...so it was not an isolated incident for you!

Good race there Owlman, I got dropped @ 73km's just on 2:00. Legs just went and that was it. Limped home in 2:46, also very dissapointed but in the bigger scheme of things, I am happy I made it to the finish in one piece. Biggest plus out of the race was the fact that I could stick in the bunch up all the climbs and got dropped when the toughest part (in my opinion anyway) of the race was done.

Trubie' date=' you had a good time dude. Nothing wrong. I must say that this race was way harder than I thought it would be.

Agree with you on the difficulty of the race, I or one underestimated the severity of Ponte and Carse O Gowrie. Wind was also not our friend yesterday.

This tells a lot about this years race:

So then my result was not as bad as I originally thought. I still missed the target by a quarter of an hour and I feel miserable about it.

Overall my race reluts for yesterday are:

Time 3:!4:31 Overall 2877/16684 Gender pos 2547/12586 Age Pos 215/1190 Group 22/353.

Judge for yourselves. Only thing I am unhappy with was not cracking the 3hr objective.

I think this route is worthy of the title "Joburgs toughest race"

I did sort of realise something was up when I noticed the article in that mag from the goodie bag "Joburgs Alpe D Huez"...I knew s#!t was coming! Trubie, thats why I was quite content to let those guys pace in D, and see what happened after the 2 monsters prior to Jan Smuts! (Never thought I'd see myself thinking ''tactics" in D!)

I do hope they keep the race on this route...but I also hope they free up more of those open fields reserved for 'VIP' people...coz there was ample parking there for us.

Def the toughest one me thinks.

Worst than D2D, Telkom and Race 4 Victory

Owl, when you have nothing else to ride for, tactics in D is what it is. My tactics were to stick as long as possible. I must say I thought I would be able to stick till Sunnyside , but managed an additional 45 km's. Also hoping they keep the route the same next year - will aid in knowing what to prep for.

Russ - finishing in top 3000 is a great achievement. Dont under estimate that effort.

You have an unsettled score, and 2010 you goal is to break 3. Its just 15 mins (sorry - 14)

Slavey...nothing wrong with your time dude.

Remember this....

"Cycling is a sport of circumstance"

The circumstances on the day dictate the outcome. Yes, from my side I was unhappy with my time because I know I am more capable of the time that I did. But, the race (in D) took on its own circumstance. I knew 10km in that I was not going to do a 2 30, simply beause I could see how the guys were riding. A group of strong triathletes were keeping a nice rolling pace...and would not allow anyone to get away. We were also all waiting for the big showdown on Ponte...and that dictated the circumstances for us (am I right Trubie?) So, in light of all that, I am happy with my time in light of the circumstances.

Slave, it sound to me lke you did a solo ride? So, in light of that circumstance there is nothin wrong with your time.

Hear what you guys are saying. The result is fair (ok, maybe even good under the circumstances) but I have to be realistic and say that I pushed myself pretty hard to achieve it. Fact is I missed the target. A miss is as good as a mile and anything else is just a *** excuse for why it is an "Acceptable miss".

Average HR for the ride was 93.75 % of max. I am not sure it does too much good to be doing that to myself so not sure that I even want to try and do that sort of thing next year.

Yes, I will ride the 94,7 again, but more on a social fun level. Maybe join my sponsors team and ride with them. Maybe adjust my target to a 3hr 45 type ride and be happy with that achievement. (But I know myslef. I will never accept that knowing that I am capable of better.)

I want to try and crack 3 for the fast one though. So come January, I hav to find myself 6 or 7 minutes over the course. I should be able to manage that.

My sub 3's (that matter) for the year are Dome and Fountains.
