Easier said than done. I am programmed to wake up at 05h30. I do it every day, even when I go to bed at midnight.

Come Friday night, I'm usually so knackerd, I fall asleep early and wake up early. Then just knowing my buds are all out there on their bikes, like really burns my butt. I get these uncontrollable urges to get on my bike and ride or do someone an injury. I must be having endorphine withdrawals or some junk.

Maybe, I will ride the hybrid tomorrow and go see the New Colnago shop. (Sorry GO, it's a Trek. Maybe you can change it into something a little more flash. smiley2.gif)

Are you open on weekends? Otherwise, I may just pop in this arvie, depending on what time I get out of here.

But the hybrid has suspension on the saddle and its got fat tackies. Nice and comfortable. Just a slow ride, I promise.

Kid, you sound worse than my Liewe Exie. (Ex trouble and strife.)

Dudes. I have been revving you up about riding a bike. I am terrified of falling now more than ever before because I know how much it hurt when I broke everything the first time. I have very little appetite for reliving that pain again. Not now, Not EVER.

The doc, orginally said six weeks and I said I will take 8. So maybe next week sometime, (After 5 weeks.) I will start with the IDT. Depends on how much more my head cold develops. I will do an initla 5 minute slow session and see how I feel. If it works out, I will increase it to ten minutes and work up from there.

Trust me, if it hurts, I will stop immediately.

Anyone interested in riding from the South to Midrand and surrounds on weekdays?

I Live in Bassonia and work in Midrand and would love to ride to work and back occasionaly ---- around 45 kays one way.

HAs anyone out there done it yet?

I am working on a safe route which I will probably try out on the weekend before attempting a weekday ride.

I am thinking of getting a few riders together for safety's sake, we could also pool resources ie lifts back and the like.

I used to ride from the south through to Louis Botha Avenue when I was younger. But, I went straight up through Booysens and down Jan Smuts until Bompas road, cut across to Louis Botha via Corlett. It was kinda dangerous, but sure helps your reaction times!

You could also head up through Linmeyer onto Heidelberg, up Joe Slovo and down Louis Botha all the way to Midrand. Its not as hectic and scary as everyone thinks. Good luck dude...unfortunately I live 2km away from work in the south!

Slave and crew...I'm only open and ready to trade from next week. And my hours will be from around 8-30 till 5-30. Have not decided yet. But if you phone me at 3am wanting a Super Record equipped EPS with Bora's I'll go open up just for you!

As for the time off and training...

My old coach the esteemed Bernard Kessler always warned us that a week off the bike usually took another 3weeks to get back to the same level of fitness. And that was without injury.

So Slave, accept the fact your gonna start from scratch...the good news is that your muscle memory is fantastic. It wont be long before your racing up the Steps again.

Cruzer I can understand why you would want to cycle to Midrand, if I had to drive a MERC I would also rather cycle smiley36.gifsmiley36.gifsmiley36.gifsmiley36.gif

I seriously think you should attempt this on a Sunday, (some roads have serious pot holes) and then leave very very early on a weekday.

It was good seeing you guys on Sunday.

Slave, to overcome your fear I think you should go out and do a time trial on that stretch of road. With all the rest you've had you should be at least 5min faster.

(I'm thinking of coming to fetch the Colnago and only giving back to you once Dr Bones gives the go ahead)

GreyOWL, is it a shop or a show room ?

Will attempt to leave work early one day next week to come and have a look.

I take it you'll be open on weekends ?

as a student, I studied 3 years in Potch, then went to Univ of Pta in my 4th year. I was busy with post degree studies and I only had classes on monday eve's and friday mornings, so on monday mornings I would cycle from Alberton to Pta via Heidelberg, Louis Botha, Old Pta road, Voortrekkerhoogte, all the way to Capital Park - about a 90 k ride one way.

I wouldnt dare go anywhere close to most of those roads especially Louis Botha with a bicycle now... So Cruzer, good luck, not sure how many takers you gonna get.

then again, the hub is full of crazy bike riders, so you may be in luck!

GO went past there today after school as its directly on my way home. Stopped outside shop 4 (Passion @ Aspen) asked for bicycle shop/office looked at me as if i was crazy. Wandered up the stairs remembering Kid saying something about office. Never found much besides a whole bunch of locked doors on the first floor with doctors rooms.

2nd floor is really still busy laying the floor never saw much other offices. But maybe on monday I'll come wandering around again. Now that I no office 4 suite A.

Standing around in the mud, waiting for people to decide whether to go or not is not fun... nor are these massive events true MTB events.

Trubie, do not allow these so called MTB races aligned with a big road race put you off MTB'ing, rather do the MTB races that grew out of their own accord, not for being 'affiliated'
