hi, how many of you guys run tubeless tires? a friend of mine runs tubeless and swears by them, he says it removes a lot of weight and the bike runs smoother. is this true?

Dunno about the weight, but I am NOT running tubeless (with slime however), and had to repair 4 punctures(removing thorns from outer tyre) this morning at home after having had to remove one MASSIVE thorn which caused a flat...

Tubeless seems to be the way to go, purely based on this, and everything else should be a pure bonus!

If you're going full UST tyres then you won't drop any weight. If anything your bike will gain a couple of grams. But the advantages far outweigh the weight-gain. You can run lower pressures which aids grip and is actually faster over flats than higher pressure. Stronger sidewall will get rid of sidewall cuts and nasty mid-corner tyre-roll.

DO IT. I haven't punctured in over two years.

I agree with Crow, I run a conversion and i rarely get punctures now and if I do get something that needs to be fixed I just "plug" it which is alot easier and faster.

I run 29er  with tubless, best thing I ever did, tires are more supple over bumps, MORE TRACtion, way lighter than UST (also UST has limited range of tires to choose from), be careful which tires you choose though, if you are going to be running a xc rig make sure the tire casing is not to thin or you will get cuts. With tubless it is my opinion that you must run the correct tire for the terain you will be riding or you will have problems, rather be over cautious

I run heaVY 2.3 Tires as I ride very rocky trails, Always cary a spare tube! I would suggest a Stans rim, I have the flow and its rock solid.

No more pinch flats, the other day I pulled a cardboard box staple from the tire and "the solution " just sealed the hole.

I weigh 96kg, if I did not run 50 psi I would get pinch flats.

With tubless I can run 35psi

To me tubless is the best bike invention ever as makes riding 100% more pleasurable

Which 29er tires do you use? I use Bontragers Dry X UST, but they cut when it gets rocky.

Panaracer Rampage 2.35 Kenda Nevegal 2.2 Nevegal actually measures biger, great tires all imported though and worth it, also they wear quite slowly, I ride super rocky trails.

if you go bontrager 29er tires look at the revolt super x and then the jones XR tires if you want more grip the dry x are only good for road riding in my opinion the super x is a much better tire at the same or similar price!!!

and maxxis have got 29er tires just not too sure about availability

i am keen to try it but i am a bit worried about the effects of high pressure related blow outs
