great idea! Not only will we keep the road clean but receive something back as well.

I had one of the green wasps at the DC, tastes awful (real bad) but helped me the last couple of km's. The dog didnt mind the taste though and ate the packet when I got home.  He preferred the gu's though. Wink

Hi Collin,

My only reason for asking about your intentions

with regards to the disposal of these gel packets is that in your blog,

you say: "I knew even my gels weren?t going to sit today, so i threw

them over

the edge of the bridge into the water and settled into a pace which i

thought i could cope with and started planning on running on only coke

and water." [http://www.collinallin.com/?m=200811&paged=2]

This

only leads me to believe that you are trying to push your product, and

your topic entitled "Whasp saves the Earth" is not entirely true.

You

see, I too have a major problem with people who litter in our great

outdoors. I normally come home from MTB outrides with junk and bottles

that I find along the way. I often have to stop to pick up other

peoples rubbish, but since my boyscout days, I was taught that if I

don't do it, then who will?

Collin, the only reason you might

feel attacked is because perhaps your intentions are not entirely

philanthropic, which actually rings as the opposite in this case. You

see, the good energy you are putting out (excuse the pun, although I

havn't tried these gels of yoursWink)

is to generate sales of your product. You even made a point to sidestep

other manufacturers by offering points for more of your products.

I

have a problem on a forum when people try to push their products. It's

very different to selling off some gear you have, as the classifieds on

this site are a highly effective way to do so. What would happen if

every company decided to solicit sales on open public forums such as

this? It would offend people and sway conversation and freedom of

choice and speech. There is something called fair advertising, and the

way you have gone seems the opposite to me.

Lastly, how can you

say that if I don't like what you are doing I must stay off your post?

Surely myself and others have a right to make comments? Whether or not

they seem in favour of your opinion or not, in no way was anyone

attacking you. All that was asked was to back up your philanthropic

gesture with a solution, otherwise don't play that card.

Someone

earlier said that I implied a solution. Well, I didn't, but ok, why not

have your gel packets made from a biodegradable material? You will

never be able to stop the selfish ones from throwing them into rivers,

onto roads and into bushes, but at least if they are made from a rapid

UV degrading plastic or plastic coated paper, they will disappear in

time. Is that positive enough for you?

I largely agree with your comments but with regards to the quote above Whasp places paid for adverts on the Hub and are therefore partially sponsoring the site. I believe Hub rules allow for the type of promotion as done by Collin under these circumstance.

In the same way the competiotions run by Chris Willemse are allowed as CWC also places paid for adverts.

what about a edible sachet!

Great idea. It's almost like my idea the other day to try and make edible public toilet door/screens. You basically go into the cubicle, pull down a rice paper screen for privacy, and then eat your way out when done. You could have different flavours too, and in the case of franchise restaurants like Spur, these edible screens could act as aperatifs!WinkLOL

Seeing that you are being so pedantic I would suggest that you come up with your own ideas and not purge them from elsewhere. The idea of biodegradable packaging is MY intellectual property and strictly and legally speaking were Collin to do this he would first have to obtain my permission to do so and may be subject to Royalties derived from the sale thereof.

Now would it not be a good idea to rather make the gels in a bio degradeable package? That way we could moer them all over the place and not feel bad about it or make you get that churning feeling in your stomache.

Certainly, if you can provide me with the details of your patent on this. You must be a very rich person.

I don't think I'm being overly concerned with small details here either, as you calling me pedantic implies. I can't for the life of me see this as a small detail. Plastic litter is a very real problem, and one that I do commend Collin on for his initiative to try and minimise. I only asked what his intention is with all of those gel packets. Simple.

Patents, Copy Right and Trademark are part of Intellectual Property not requirements.

Anyways I would imagine his intention is to dispose of the plastic packets in a refuse bag like we all should do.

Ok,firstlky i did throw my gels into the water and it was a red mist moment racing world champs..however it wasnt in my sachets..it was in a plastic flask...thats what got me thinking

I havent once said i was going to dump empty sachets, i have said we were going to melt them ?? is that not good enough ??

And AGAIN let me know how i can do it better and i will....

Everything i have advertised has made my product cheaper for the hubbers, yes i sold some more product but you guys also got cheaper product..\

i thought it was a win - win situation....and 95% of the people have been happy..

POint taken though...thanks

just to repeat what i said on the other thread as this one has gone the same way:

just another point, people are always complaining after races about the empty sachets lying around and the damage that is causing the enviroment. many here brag about "i put mine back in my pocket and throw them away at home" and it is largely accepted that this is the way to do it. NOW pornstar is incentivising MORE people to do this, with a "pay back" for them so you promptly attack him?!?!?!?!

OF COURSE he has a vested interest and as he is in a line of business that he directly benefits is not a crime. ANY form of "social awareness" by any business is always done with a vested interest - avoid fines for non-compliance with laws, gain market share through "free" advertising, etc, etc. that does not make any of these actions wrong. at least pornstar is meeting his compliance issues in a way that gives back to his customers AND to the community and he's not just donating "x" amount of profits to an unrelated cause with no payback into cycling.

Do you Guys have any idea why Places like McDonalds, KFC and other successful chain stores use sooooooo much branded Boxes, wrappers, Bags, serviettes ect on one product when so much less would work just as well on there products??? <?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Cuz they know some of it will find it's way onto the streets all over the place, it then becomes a "free" form of advertising, like little flyers all over!!.

I've started to wonder if some Pro Cyclists are maybe not adviced to throw there Gel Packets all over the place for this very reason..

But Whasp Gels goes out of it?s way to stop this, and this is commendable!

It's cool man. Apologies if you feel attacked here. It is a good deal you've made, and big up for the effort. I was just making a point about proper recycling methods because the trash cyclists leave behind after races is just wrong. It makes us all look bad. So seriously, shot for the effort. I just wondered about your intentions because your blog comment made it seem to me that way.

A lot of our plastic refuse gets sorted and recycled in Sa, but never enough. Most of it still ends up in velds, fills, rivers and ultimately, the ocean.

Some interesting reading on the problem:

Thanks, for a great idea, if this initiative gets off the ground it will surly make people think and more people will keep there empty gel bags even if they are using other brands.

If this just promote the idea not to throw your garbage on the road, it will already be a great achievement and a win for the cycling community.
