I'm looking for some technical downhill singletrack to ride on my Mountain Unicycle Smile. I live quite close to Tokai Forest and ride there quite often and have done all or most (I think) of the single tracks there. The single tracks that I prefer riding because they are more technical are, Cobra, Downhill 1, Lizard, Vasbyt, and My Roots. The other single tracks there are great, but don't offer the technical difficulty that I'm looking for, and I usually do them when I want a slightly easier ride for some saddle time.

The other requirement is that it shouldn't be a 10-15km ride just to get to the single tracks because.... well ... I'm on one wheel which just takes a long time to cover any kind of distance, unless of course the amount of single track is equal or greater than the distance to get to them in the first place. As an example in Tokai Forest....  The Bridal Path. It isn't at all technical but it is a nice ride, but it takes me almost an hour and a half just to get there to ride a 1.5km single track which to me is not worth the effort.

So so get back to my question. Does anyone know of any technical downhill single tracks in and around Cape Town ? and by technical I mean *Technical* not easy sweeping single tracks. I'm looking for drops, rocks, tight switch-backs, etc... technical stuff Smile

bump ....

Are there no MTB riders in Cape Town that know of any technical downhill single tracks to ride ? Perhaps people think that I'm not serious about it ? Smile

Here is a video showing some of what we do in the forest:

and another showing the guys up in Pretoria riding down Klapperkop:

There is no other legal singletrack that you can ride within 15 km of Tokai Forest, there are other options but no-one will tell you about these and you stand to have your bike / wheel? confiscated if caught. Rather head out to Majic Forest in the Durbanville, you will have to drive there

I don't mind driving somewhere to get to some technical single track, as long as it is decent single track and not jeep track.

I know of the trails around Signal Hill, some of which are "illegal" to ride on. We've done some riding above Molteno Loop taking the "stairs" down from the Cable Way:

Eden' date=' Stellenbosch. [/quote']

We've been to Eden, and had a great time riding around there. The single track there is not extensive though, but the Northshore stuff is great. That's if it's still there, haven't been there for a little while.

Here is a photo of Johnny, one of the better Uni riders doing a drop off the Northshore there:

But did Johnny land it? I checked out your Youtube video' date=' you guys seem to fall pretty regularly. Also how do your nads handle it?[/quote']

He did actually Smile In fact he did that particular drop 3 times, landing all of them.

As for the "boys" handling things.... It so rarely ever happens that you rack yourself. It happened more in the first 2 weeks when I was learning to ride, than it has since. When you're taking drops you're standing up on the pedals absorbing the drop with your legs. If you're sitting on the saddle when you take a drop it will just bounce you off when you land.

We do tend to bail a lot, but 90% of the time we're landing on our feet. I have bitten the dirt a few times, but we're going so slowly anyway and there is no bike between us and the dirt so it's not really a problem Big%20smile

ARE YOU MAD???  Clap My respects' date=' dude. Looks awesome.[/quote']

Mad .... Possibly Smile It really is a lot of fun, more than I can actually describe. Check out our website with loads of info on learning to ride a Unicycle, where to get, etc.... including a photo and video gallery

There is a bit of singletrack stuff near Rhodes' Mem, towards Newlands Forest. Newlands forest itself is out of bounds to bikes, but nearer Rhodes' Mem there is some pretty tight, technical stuff if you're prepared to look for it. I've also heard that there is some stuff on Signal Hill, but haven't really explored there myself.
