I skeem...

2' date=' start doing some very basic lung exercise. before you go to bed at night, inhale as deep as you can and hold it there for a while, exhale, then exhale all you air out your lungs, keep it... inhale, do cycles like this.

But I really only sucked those out my thumb. They do make sense though.

Actually this is quite a good thumb suck. Divers do alot of breathing exercises to increase their ability to work with an oxygen deficit.

I have a program put out by Graeme Street of Cyclo-Club. It is called hypoxic breathing and he introduces a series of intervals one can do.

One of the best bits of advice he gives is before a race, even on the start line, let all your air out forcibly, big breath in and hold for as long as possible...let it out and do 5 of these. Basically the start of an MTB race one can go into oxygen deficit quite quickly with the fast starts, and by doing this exercise one is conditioning the body for what is up ahead...almost like a warm up of the lungs.

At home you can do this two ways...by holding your breath once you have let everything out and then pulling your stomach in - a yoga kind of exercise... and then also taking a deep breath in and hoding it.

I have got up to two minutes holding...but don't over do it or you could pass out. Not recomended while driving!

If you are really interested get the CD at www.cyclo-club.com

There is a huge amount of training ideas on this website.
