As you guys know, I've been training quite hard for the silly event next weekend (12 and 13 December) up in Dan Craven's world (Namibia).

The past week after the DC I took it easier, only a 10hour week with two rest days. Felt 100%! Yesterday commuted to work, then felt a bit run down in the afternoon. Grabbed a tin of coke from the canteen about 4pm. 5pm, change, commute home. 5km later I'm feeling the onset of low blood sugar..sweaty cold chills and the like. Make it to the local garage, scoff down a big Bar-One chocolate. Ride home fine. 1hr later blood sugar obviously drops lower than the Rand but I have some lasange for supper and hit the hay 10pm.

Wake up my usual 5:30am, and still feeling way worn down...decide to skip riding and drive to work. It's now a few hours on, resting heartrate as I'm sitting at my desk is 52. Tried having a Barocca and a Red Bull to lift the slump but still feel like I could sleep for a week.

Any ideas from you buggers that know more than me?

I'm with Homer on this one - rest!! I've felt like that before when I've over done it.  You might find your salts and minerals are depleted so taking something like Rehidrate over the next few days might help too.

sorry' date=' fats, couldn't resist. listen to homer: rest up; am sure you've got all the base fitness you need to do it.Thumbs%20Up [/quote'] Heheh no it's fine mate. I'm just a tad worried since I've spent the last few months concentrating on this thing, and spent faaaar too much money as well...thank the stars petrol is coming down! When I entered I planned at R10 a litre, and after tonight it's a lot cheaper..Clap

That's my lot - resting this weak ahead of the 200 on Sunday / eating right & sleeping etc. Will do one or two slow trips commuting to work shortly but nothing heavy.Thumbs%20Up

I could feel my body starting up a conversation with me about rest so I listened.

take it easy

I suggest skipping the coke and chocolate.

The caffeine in coke is what makes you feel good when you are run down (I like it when I'm sick with flu, for example) but problem with coke is the high refined sugar content means your blood sugar spikes, rather than being level, which is why you feel good for a short period. You noticed the same effect after eating the chocolate, which would have a similar sugar content.

Select quality foods with lower GI content to keep blood sugar levels stable.

I hope you actually had a decent breakfast??

Start eating well now and resting up. Hopefully you'll be fine by the weekend.

Yeah muesli and low-fat yogurt...my standard breakfast. Just thought the spike and dip would have subsided by this morning. I'll hit the canteen lunchtime and try get a good meal in and see how it goes...maybe go for a 45min spin when I get home to see how the body is acting..

apart from the redbull and berocca (god that's what people normally hit after a bender! LOL) did you eat anything mid morning, like an apple? you should as that is also key to keeping your blood sugar even. Do the same mid-afternoon, before you leave work.

Oats is still the best breakfast.  Should keep you going for most of the morning without the spikes.  Keep the fruit and yoghurt for either lunch or a mid-afternoon snack.

Stick with the old adage:  Don't stand if you can sit and don't sit if you can lie down.
