I see your is 50g and does have more numbers in the categories but my question is is if you brought your packaging size down to 32g what will your figures look like compared to the rest?

If you normalise the Whasp to a 32g packet, the figures look like this....

    Whasp 32g
    Normalised
Calories
81
Amino Acids   1517 mg
OKG   320 mg
Total Carbs   16 mg
Type Carbs  Maltodextrin, fructose, honey,
glucose
Sugar   2 mg
D-Ribose   96 mg
Protein   1280 mg
Di-Peptides Tri-Peptides   1088 mg
MCT   640 mg
Sodium   96 mg
Potassium   96 mg
Caffeine   0 mg
Antioxidants  108% Vit C                 66% Vit E                Green Tea Extract
Net WT   32 g

yes, done late at night...thanks for that..

The point is that we aren't a 32g gel and if you are paying what you pay for your gels then the table is what you get.

We are bigger to not be so concentrated and have a more sustained flow of energy, so making a less of a spike.

We are half the price of roctane, have more ingrediants and incl pepto pro

I think you're a bit disingenious there. How do you manage to get less of a spike with glucose and sucrose in there? Glucose is the ultimate spike substance and sucrose only one step away, worse than fructose.

And yes, honey is just sucrose with some added insect gob.

Powerbar bought up / into research showing that the body could increase it's total uptake of sugars if the types where different - hence glucose and sucrose makes for a longer 'hit' and less of a spike. Can't find the link to the info right now but it is on the powerbar website, as is the source of the original reasearch; a sports scientist who worked for a pro tour cycle team at the time.

PPWTF surely if you combine diferent types of sugar to increase the uptake, you are boosting the spike not flattening it.

Also Powerbar "research"? I take any research done with marketing in mind with a pinch of salt

The important thing here is carbs per dosage, basicaly all you are really looking for is energy, the rest of the stuff is just sales and marketing gimmicks. As they all seem to have very much the same carb content, the next important thing is price per sachet. So Pornstar, add a price column so we can get an accurate picture.

found a link - not the original I'd read, but covering the same topic..... The twist is interesting

"

Imagine the surprise when researchers fed trained cyclists a mixture

of glucose and fructose during prolonged, intense cycling in a

laboratory setting and found that the maximum oxidation rate for

ingested carbs was about 55% higher!5 Was this result a

mistake? If not, these findings suggest that if an endurance athlete

consumes the right blend of carbs while exercising, he or she can

dramatically boost the rate at which they absorb and therefore burn

carbs. This translates to more carbohydrate fuel being available during

extended exercise.

A Better Way to Burn

To be sure, researchers repeated their study ? this time using a

combination of glucose and sucrose (a mixture of glucose and fructose).

They theorized that the additional fructose, paired with glucose, would

again result in a higher maximum oxidation rate of ingested carbs in

cyclists. Sure enough, the oxidation rate was boosted by almost 20%.6

When glucose was supplied in the form of maltodextrin and paired with

fructose, a 40% boost in the burn rate of ingested carbs among cyclists

was seen.7"

I was wrong in the point of the original post - because I couldn't remember the reason for the 2 types of sugar being significant! Hands up / my mistake! Ouch

Yes and no. The type of carbs matter as well. A gram of glucose has a different effect from a gram of brown rice flour. Both are carbohydrates.

The GI (Glyceamic Index) simply gives you a reading as to how close to the pure glucose scale (rating 1) you are, whereas the Glyceamic Loading (GL) will tell you how much of what strength carbs you're hitting your body with.

For instance, a 2l bottle of Coke has a GI of (say) 0,8 but a GL of 800 units. If you drink half the bottle, only 400 units.

The only gel in this table that I assume would give you a low GL is the one made from rice syrup. But then again, I'm no expert on what's inside rice syrup.
