Not that I own XT  brakes (wish I did), but just check for any exclusions printed on the rotor. I have seen on a friends set of LX brakes that the rotor has Resin Pads only written on it.

Just a further thought, if Metalic pads last longer, then surely more wear is going to be occuring on the rotor. Somethings got to give, if not the pad then it must be the rotor?

Did some window shopping on CRC, appears the M775 XT is a Resin pad, the older XT brakes M755 and M756 have Metalic pads. So depends on the vintage of brake caliper. So just check the rotor for warnings before changing compound.

resin is your dry pad but lack in mud, metal is exelent in mut but noisy and a bit underpower in dry but they do last longer(not that resin dont last long)

p.s. you can write a resin pad off in 1 very wet and muddy ride

I need to replace the pads on my Shimano XT Brakes. Are pads just pads or do you recommend any specific ones?

Have been through many different pads and to be honest the Shimano XTR have worked the best for me. I use the Metal for all round use but have played with a Resin set in winter when I can be guaranteed dry riding. The resin pads bite niceley in the dry and are much quieter. Not worth a thing if they get wet.

You can wear out a set of metal in a day as well.

Your rotor will never wear out with normal brake pad wear.

smiley36.gif It is either resin or not , XTR brake pads are no diff from other Shimano pads . I replaced my brake pads after almost 14 months ! If you gonna brake then do it like you mean it !!!

WTF????????????????????????

Netiquette is a two-way affair. The poster conforms to common grammatical, spelling and puntuaction rules and the reader overlooks the odd typo.

Dropping capitals, adopting unconventional spelling rules and ignoring all punctuation is simply sloppy and in my view, a sign of disdain towards your reader. Take some pride in your postings and leave the ghetto spelling for talking to your cellphone mates on Mixit.
