One thing I AM confused about,  how would we attract youngsters to the sport (gals & lads; black & white) if we do not respect equal oppertunities?

 

...and should it not start a club level?  How many clubs are really supporting vets woman racing?  I only know of MTN Club100 (and no I am not a member).

 

I don't really think it is only about the money but about the recognition as well, maybe then more vets ladies will attend races?

 

and VETS LADIES - you ROCK.  Love seeing you on the road/track/bush/etc.

Ok Turtlek or should I address you by the pet name I have for you. You feel hard done by the comment I made. What gives you the right to dish it out. See the opening comments you made. As for you being a long time hubber    since 17 April 2008 hahaha.

Licensed cycling in the country is for all age categories. That is why ladies do take out racing licenses and use them to race.

 

Organisers of Classics undertake to pay ex amount of price money according to the status of the race. The number of entrants per category does not matter as the race attracts sponsorships and a lot of fun riders who contributes towards paying for the costs of the race.

 

A classic is meant to afford all licensed cyclists the opportunity to compete and be rewarded irrespective of their age or sex. Discrimantion especially in sport is against our constitution.

 

See road running and the prizes they pay.

 

Classics are not only about elites 65 men and 15 woman entering. What TV Coverage to they attract. 3 Minutes on Supercycling.

 

For your info I am not bitter about anything.

 

I do find it amusing that you have snotty coments on a lot of topics on this forum.

 

There is of course by the look of things a number of other half brainers who think their childish comments on most topics are funny.

My 2c...

Pay the Elite Mens and Womens only.

Recognition is nice and all but if you're going to pay Vets Ladies then you have to pay U23, Juniors, U16, U14, U10, Vets 30-35, Vets 35-40, Vets, 40-45, tandems (all age categories), single speeds, mountain bikes blah blah - you see where I'm going with this.

By all means publish the results somewhere - Bicycling website, CSA website etc to give everyone recognition but I for one don't want to sit through a 2 hour awards ceremony where the clapping gets strained after the 47th medal and R100 prize envelope gets dished out and photo taken.

i am not missing the point i never said you were wrong about the licensed riders not being catered for and at least i actually have motivation to get better instead of whinging on a forum about things that could be rectified with people that are involved

now seriously George or fourfeet whichever you would like to be called my only advice to you is go have a chat to those race organisers and fight for the cause that you have such strong feelings about and i am sure they will either help you out or give you an answer that will be twisted in loops more than anybody can comprehend either way at least you would have tried to get a better race prize for the ladies

I would imagine once we move past the anger and defensiveness that women have as much right to be compensated (and equally) as men. The problem might be that if you want to do it for money, you should do it as a job. Then become a pro. A lot of the pressure for vets prizemoney comes from vets who need the income to suport their lifestyle of being nothing more than cyclists. Consumer stats tell us that the growth in female expenditure on sports equipment and sporting activity has been 4 times greater in the last 2 years than men!! No doubt more women's prizemoney would attract more women cyclists. Chicken/egg??

And Turtlek - you seem to think cyclists from the 60's can't stand comparison with the modern breed of wimps?? Don't worry - that's just your lack of 'experience' speaking. FYI the fastest average speed for Paris-Roubaix was set early in the 60'. On steel bikes, with rain, hail, mud and the rest.
