Why not name the shops in question' date=' poor service should not be honoured with silence. We understand that sometimes people slip up, but if they don't at least make an effort to restore your happiness they should be named and shamed.

Agreed, i dont use a LBS anymore not because they stuffed up a service resulting in a ding in my frame,  sh!t happens, but because their efforts to rectify it left a lot to be desired.

My last number of services included shocks being serviced, new brake pads, tyres, cables & a chain - not all at the same time.

However, that's not the point & I understand that things costs money.

I am tired of crap service (the customer kind).

Sweet.

Dude, I have said this before but will say it again... I use Northcliff cycles. A major service costs me R450.00 excluding pars that need to be replaced. the I have never had any problems with them at all. In fact they have more often that not done more than expected when it comes to my bikes well being... I am not a pro rider or even a very good rider but i ride quite a lot and often have to have stuff changed, fixed etc... Ruan is the service dude there and he is fan fekken tastic. the customer service is also awesome. Give them a try. Like i said, I ride an old silverback but they treat it as if it were a top of the range Bianchi or summin. I am very impressed.

To be fair to Wimpie, the cost of the service was not an issue, and why always looking for holes in the post, he said it cost R1000.00 - R2000.00 so why cant some people just accept that?

When I take my car or motorbike or even cycle for a service I look at the bottom line and to me thats the service cost, must Wimpie now say I service my bike and the breakdown is as follows.............??

Why?

To him it costs X amout, thats it........... what was replaced or serviced is immaterial.!

Dagnab it guys, the issue was poor or no service, not the costs he is prepared to pay.!

The shops in question are FPC in Witkoppen and Bruce Reyneke in Lynnwood drive PTA.

I agree about FPC - went in late last year to get some rim tape put on my new rims and new tubes put in. Took 50mins!! They had me standing around all that time. They had told me it was a quick job. If that is quick then eish!! They have zero idea about customer service.

My experience with Bruce Reyneke when looking to acquire a new MTB was not great. One thing I hate most is arrogance and the little helper that came to assist me oozed it. I also got the feeling their prices where a little on the high side, perhaps the name entitles a little levy on recommended retail. My hope is that these stores perhaps may stumble across such complaints and make a point of improving their service delivery more so than simply rubbing their names in the dirt.

Considering you travel between PTA and JHB, I would suggest if you need LBS intervention try Grant Cycles, it is important to try standerdise on a shop so as to build a relationship (as mentioned in an earlier post). I visit there a lot because I have meetings in Centurion every Tuesday, thus affording me a break from the monopoly I have here in Rusteburg.

What irritates me the most these days are the youngsters that work(?) at bike shops, especially the boutique ones. The advice they sometimes dish out is horrendous; "Sir, this Kenda Nevegal is a really fast rolling tire" or, "This Sigma light is brighter than anything else on the market". Fortunately I have learned to research and decide what I want and need before I go into the bike shop. I have filled in lots of those little white postcard thingies at FPC (when they do not have stock of some particular item I need), and I have yet to be contacted. I also find it difficult to accept advice from some pimply, pale-skinned, overweight person regarding any cycling related topic. So I just don't visit these shops anymore. In fact, I cannot find any compelling reason to renew my boutique club membership this year.

Enough ranting now, I am actually having a good day.

So you shop at Cajees now?

I have also had nothing but problems with FPC ,they are expensive, very dishonest, have children working in their shops that have no knowledge of the products they sell ,and dont ever expect them to phone back.

I can recomend Bester Cycles as they have so far allways gone out of their way to help me to get what i need or want.

Prices are good and at least if you walk into the shop someone comes to help.

Never been there before, but I might just pop in this year. I have heard that there is a new Solomon's in Woodmead.

I am pretty happy with my bike at the moment. Most of the stuff I have bought was from hubbers. It's mainly tires, brake pads and chains that I am replacing nowadays, so these are the items that I stock up on when I find a good deal. My best investment last year was the park tool chain wear checker. Point in case, the boutique store wanted R330 for it, I got it from Mervyn Dinklemann for R100, CRC quotes +- R90.

Oom, ek sal na jou raad luister want jy het ten minste die tan! Al is dit net deur die helmet. Ek verstaan ook dat daar 'n tekort aan skeermesse in Angola is.

Miskien is ek bevooroordeeld.

R1000-R2000 for a bike service..... nothing just got a call from my "friendly" LBS to say that my shock is ready from its service.

First week of December I took my mtb bike in to FPC, Fourways, to have my front shock checked. Was told to fetch my bike a day later, got there and bike was not checked, story gets longer when the supplier of the dust cover of the shock is blamed for the bad client service I received from FPC. Eventually, after 2 weeks, dust cover traced to the shop, me travelling to the shop all the way from Alberton. The manager did not even come to me to say sorry. In the mean time, I have found out I work in the same company as the financial backers of FPC. They will be informed of the poor service. Too many kids in the shop without proper experience!!!
