ok this has been allot of help...not!

Neither spec mentions front and rear derailleur, weight or price. However given that the first one has 100mm travel as opposed to 80 and is a 9 speed I assume it is a higher  spec, I would go with that one.

However I would also shop round outside the brand, Mongoose bikes are very well priced and spec'd and there seems to be very good value to be had with Felt.

The Merrida that we had for a while (can't remember the model) was a heavy monster, but otherwise very good.

Look's like you are comparing the Matts 60-D against the Matts TFS-100, right ?

The 60-D may well have 1 or 2 things that are higher specced ( like 27 speed vs 24 speed ), but essentially you are comparing a racing bike (TFS) with a recreational bike (60-D).

So it depends on what you want to do with it. Racing vs not.

Also, in the future if you choose to upgrade part by part, the TFS is going to get you a lot further. Otherwise if you get a whole new bike it's not going to matter either way.
