Mistyslav,  You're bang on with that.  With the exception of those who do live far away the location is not too far out of the city, infact you could argue that it's ideally placed between Jo'burg, Pta & the 'Dorp.  I laughed at some guys who regularly drive to Northern Farms who told me it was too far to travel to Logwood!  It's the same distance from Jo'burg & only about 5 minutes drive away from the Farm.  Sad man.

People vote with their feet.

I agree that it is a tragedy to lose ANY MTB trail, especially in deprived Jo,Burg, but it only catered for medium technicality.  So none of the freeride and big hit guys bothered going there as the trails are too tight and are not enjoyable on any sort of freeride rig.  (including DJ).  I can assure you that the masses (i.e. all those beginners and people who aren't race snakes) enjoy the sensation of a flowy trail (even if they don't actually realise what it is) without the huge effort required to get some flow going.  We call it the effort vs reward ratio.

The new park, although smaller is more ideally located so that you don't have to drive for 2 hours to ride.  That is where the people were obviously coming from.  In addition, it has more flow in the Drop Zone and Green Mile trails.

Another nail in the coffin is many (most) people think trails are easy to build and can be done in a couple of days.  It takes a massive effort, time & expense to build trails.  You can double or even treble that for a reasonably good trail.  Then we have people moaning about the parks not being world-class and expect Whistler or Saalbach in Bryanston.

There is absolutely no reason why 2 parks should not be able to operate in this vicinity.  But seeing as 90% of the Jo'burg MTB community thinks that dirt roads are good MTB trails, real mountain biking is just not worth the effort.

You want these parks to be able to stay around, then it's also part of your duty to support them, and to get your mates to support them.

Out in the Kemptune Pork side of the East we don't have anything technical ..... unless you call a patch of soft sand on a miele field road technical.

But a round trip of over 100km to ride in a park is a bit much .... I've only ever been to the farm for a race & never went to Logwood.

So the idea is to let the bike park owners make some money so that they can build the next one in the Oss Rondt.

And before you ask, no, I have absolutely no financial interest in the parks, I am only a freerider that is so desperate for a place to ride and not get sued that I am building jumps at the bike park for free, gratis and for fokall.

But I s'pose people will criticise them too...

The worse part, no has told the staff yet. We went there on friday and saw the guys still busy cleaning the track and trimming the grass which looked a bit odd considering the place was closing on sunday. We stopped and chatted to the guys and it turns out they had no clue the place was closing.

Thats off sides!

I think the guys that work there still have a bit of work ahead of them. The park will need to be broken down, all the bridges etc disassembled.

But yes, they do need to know sooner rather than later.

what i found confusing is that a mail from geoff said that annual plates at logwood would be useless from after the weekend of the 7th and 8th. could there still be a week left?

The guys working there have known about it for quite a while.  I fond out from them before christmas.  I was there on Saturday and the guys had put in great effort knowing that the place was going to close.  I'm also greatful as it made the Puff Adder easier to see on the path through 12 steps.  Trust and the crew who've tiedied up the track week in week out have always been friendly and when we've pointed out problem areas over the last few months they've been straight in and fixed them up.  Great effort dudes...  I hope the future comes right for you guys.

No, if you don't get your Logwood cards to the Bryanston Park on the 7th or 8th, they'll be useless. If you do get them there, you get 50% off the same card/plate at the Bryanston park.

Selective reading sucks eh? Tongue
