Gman1834 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Petrol is expensive, race entry's are expensive, But getting >2hour off during the day to collect numbers is costing the company lots of money and we cant take half day leave for every race. Cant they arrange for 3 collection points or a tab were you can select were you want to collect numbers? Gman18342009-01-26 12:39:03
Contaminated Haggis Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I'm from Benoni, of course Sweat & Gears makes the most sense
spano Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I stay in Secunda or Potch most of the time,, doesnt matter I have to take a whole day and drive there just to get the number... would be nice to pick it up before the race..
Guest Agteros Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Collection before the race, or later during the evenings on Thursdays & Fridays. 17/18H00 is too early to escape Fourways with sanity intact, as the traffic there is crazy at any time of any day of the week- especially for those of us sane people staying on the inside of the highway! Why can't the races allow us to collect number at the bike shops inside the highway as well? Or are there some more "insider stuff" at work here?
fandacious Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 why not make it like running, and give you 1 number that you use for all your races. much simpler
KlapperKnop Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 why not make it like running' date=' and give you 1 number that you use for all your races. much simpler [/quote'] I can recall in the 1990, PPA gave each member a permanent number for the year ... offcourse those years there was no timing done ... I would also think that is the best way forward; offcourse the timing company does the registration process by tagging you chip before going into the starting shutes; thereby eliminating the "roof-ryers" ....
Guest Agteros Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 why not make it like running' date=' and give you 1 number that you use for all your races. much simpler[/quote'] What? Make something in cycling simpler/better/easier? Ludicrous!!!

Cool idea. or cant we print our own numbers, they save money we save time. So who do we contact? Supercycling?

Its difficult to control seeding without your seeding number on your back. Also, seeding in running isnt as important as in cycling. If you start with a fast group in running, its not going to make much of a difference
scotty Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Best of two picks, i work close to JHB Cylcelab and live close to sweat & gears and TDF.

Those were the best days. Used the same number for interclubs aswell. We never even thought of doing a race without paying. I had timing on all my certificates from those days. I do not know how they did it byt is was pretty accurate.
Joe Low Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 A lot of people find e-mail a lot easier than running round with messages stuck on a cleft stick; or as Gman says driving for hours out to some god-forsaken bike shop in the middle of nowhere. So if the organizers can e-mail me a gazillion reminders of their event, they have enough grey matter to send me my race no. by the same means...... But probably not enough to work out how to fax the goodie bag.
TiBones Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Maybe one can buy a ream(for the fanatics) or a coupla pages of that special paper that the numbers are printed on. Normal A4 80 gsm will rip in the wind and the ink would run in the rain. I would be prepared to, for example, show my CSA liscence (albeit just cyclosport) to be allowed to buy paper from Cyclelab or other nominated outlets. I know it is asking a lot of the organisers but it is a possibility. Have goodie bags for the guys collect their numbers.
AndreZA Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 The "paper" they us is called Tyvek. You can not print on it with a normal printer. I say up the license for the first time you take it out and hand out printed cotton numbers.
TiBones Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Even better! Prob comes in when we do MTB races. Can (would) we use the same number?
AndreZA Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Even better! Prob comes in when we do MTB races. Can (would) we use the same number? they should give you a number for each discipline you do. You pay for it anyway.
