Fast One MTB race

Organisation of this event was very dissappointing. Firstly the start, all riders 58 and 29km races started mixed together. This resulted in a slow and frustrating start (squeezing out of the school grounds). Lap 1 was spent trying to force your way through slow/technically unskilled riders.

Timing - last year they had split times, this at least ensured that the 58km riders actually completed 2 laps, this year that was considered unnecessary.

Hence any rider with a 58km assigned board who felt they couldn't complete a 2nd lap would be scanned in as completed. Obviously riders crossing the finish before the winner came over would be listed as DQ, but anyone coming in after the winner would get a valid time.

Any results there? Hoping my roadie team mate Jeffrey shaped up...

If he is anything like you, then he would have no problem.

Agree... the route was much better.

We had a total ball on this ride.

Di CPD finished her longest MTB race (60km) to date and even made time to assist a guy with a snapped collar bone.

My little steep daughter (13) also finished her longest (30km) and was classified 3rd in her age group.

I had a blast thanks the GT Marathon Pro kindly lent to me by Clint and Arthur at Finish Line cycles. What an awesome bike. Going to be very reluctant to give it back this morning.

The 30km traffic on the first lap was a bit frustrating and I think a split start would be nice for future events. Also split timing would have been nice, I'm sure it would show my second lap a lot faster than the first.

The new improved route is also excellent. I totally loved the single track by the river. I found out on my second lap that it is completely ridable (apart from the tree over the path), and that if you carrly enough speed through the drop off's you can get some RAD air popping out the top of the short sharp climbs.

For those girls blouses who insisted on walking the drop offs, my 13 year old step daughter doing her first decent race rode all of them!!!

As a whole I would give the organisers a big Thumbs%20Up and a Clap, while there is room for improovement it was a great event and I will be back next year.

My wife did the 30km race and told me about a 13 year old girl she met en-route who was fearless (put my wife to shame LOL). Zipping up and down the hills without a care in the world.

On the route, it was once past the blockages a fun and fast route. I also landed up getting unplanned air on lap 2, came zipping down one descent and carried more speed than planned over the top of the following ascent. Landed on my front wheel (I now have a new found respect for my Rockshox Recon).

My little step daughter wasn't as fearless as she looked. She told me last night that at the tough looking climbs and drop-offs she promised herself a chocolate if she managed to ride the obstacle. I think she ended up with 3 out of 5 for the ride.

I think it is time to take her to the bike park and make sure she has the correct technique. Smile

Mark - I didn't see you and the clan there....pity! Glad to hear Cian kicked some ass.

Great race otherwise - got to the start early and had no "traffic" whatsoever - course conditions were wicked (just wet enough to carve up nicely), weather was great, atmosphere was awesome, the new bike handled like a dream (29 is the way to go - it rolled really well over bumpy single track), met soome old friends I haven't seen for a while....

All in all a good day!

I think Cian should put us all to shame at the park tomorrow! LOL That kiddo did well! So proud of her!!

As for me.... I am finding this mtb thing a bit bumpy but fun. Learnt that I must ride with chammy cream for longer mtb rides, and I must carry a triangular bandage in my 1st aid kit! Pressure bandage aint gonna help a broken collar bone.

Btw... I came 5th in my category!

Nice race, was expecting more mud - I think we were lucky. The start sucked, and the 2nd lap seemed to go much quicker that the first (suspect these are related).

The guys not riding the obstacles need to make way for the people that are!

Cian says she thinks you over took her on your way to the finish. It was only Cian and I at the Fast MTB, the rest road the Berg & Dale the previous day.

Now that you mention it I think I saw her - tough to say for sure - 3 of us were fighting for a top 10 finish so the last 20km went by in a blur of back markers and dondering through the bush next to the single track Tongue
