Contrary to my little crusade about people riding alone a while ago I found myself doing a solo ride on Saturday morning; a pleasant, contemplative experience.

Turned slightly sour as I emerged from Eco Park at John Vorster drive; instead of turning left and going past Makro and Supersport park as per usual, I crossed straight over used the road that is still under construction (passes by Centurion golf estate right up to Irene). Caught in the spirit of the moment and having no traffic to concern myself with I was in a mild daydream and didn't notice 4 'pedestrians' had surreptitiously herded me into the gutter.

With nowhere to go I was preparing for what seemed like an inevitability.

Unbeknownst to the protagonists a mountainbiker came from the opposite direction and with a cheerful 'hi' and a wave of the arm made the 'pedestrians' open up the road in front of me.

Not sure what might have happened, but am rather glad it didn't.

I believe I am usually pretty aware of my surroundings but apparently a lapse in concentration is very easy to have.

Please keep your eyes open guys 'n gals

Would have hated to have seen you lose another piece of equipment in a year.

Be safe and watch your six, is what we say here.  But in SA i think that needs to be watch everywhere.

Glad you OK wolf

Along the same lines another mountain biker (Leandre Groenewald) was attacked on Saturday in Centurion. Just off Botha avenue about 100 metres from where Mathilda was attacked 3 weeks ago. Luckily no injuries but did have her Camelbak taken.

Was apparently cycling with her husband who was a short way ahead of her. They waited for him to pass and then jumped out at her. Held her mouth closed so she couldn't scream anjd ripped her Camelbak off.

Still NOT SAFE OUT THERE unless you are in a large group, WHICH KEEPS TOGETHER.
