The bottom line:

I feel that as cyclists we are being ripped off and often just fatten the pockets of the race organisers because this is our passion and we are "too gullible" to boycott a specific event.

Too often categories are also incorrectly classified, this happened on Sunday's Dirt Festival.

I don't believe that all races and all race organisers are sharks.

I have said earlier on that it's a matter of principle.

Cyclists train hard and when they are made a promise, they expect that promise to be upheld.

I have been to quite a few events where prize monies was promised just to walk away empty handed.

Will these small amounts promised make me any richer.........NO, it's just pure PRINCIPLE and simple ethics.

Staal

Marshall's normally volunteer their services the cyclist normally say thank you.

When you get your free T-Shirt for standing in the sun all day long and you make yourself freely available and expect renumeration for that, then do feel free to take this up with the race organiser.

I simply cannot understand why Intern has to get mud slung for a promise he was made and for what is owning to him.

This is just poor show.

This is how it works, we pay our entry fee and we expect some service and a little bit of value in return.

Can anybody

assist ? how much time is a cyclist allowed to appeal after the race?

hours/days?

To the

comments regarding the fun riders ? I suppose that is what cycling as a sport

should be about FUN! The ?celebrities? in cycling is appreciated but to me

personally its about the thousands of riders doing the race in 4 or 5 hours.

These are the guys that give the race its personality. If I where one of those

guys and the riders I look up to is belittling me, I would probably pawn my

bike and take up running! lol.

I would

never be corrupted with a beer, maybe 2. Who knows maybe I will personally hand

you your tjek next year, if you are lucky like this year and make into the top

3 that is.

Marius, Marius, Marius. You really are an individual lacking moral fibre, integrity and courage. (I would encourage you to look that one up, as you seem to have a very slender grasp of what this word means). I give you all my contact details, you request that I remove your name from my posts. I send you a direct email to your work email address, you accuse me of bribery. I offer you an olive branch and the very manly prospect of meeting me in person for a conciliatory beer, you throw it in my face before the barman even serves it.

Just be very grateful that I didn't have a go at your male pattern baldness, your cheap suit or your membership of Rotary which is in all likelihood to make up for a lack of friends.

I tell you what. I will allow you to offer to buy me a beer. I will, with good grace, accept.intern2009-02-06 01:52:47

This is me (in the yellow).

If you have ever wondered what the expression 'people who live in glass houses should not throw stones' means, here you are.

QED. Bitch.

And ja, I know, I am going to be in trouble with Admin for that one, but the pics are public domain stuff straight off of the Interweb....

Looks like Staal is on the ropes, too. Good use of boxing terminology, I have to say. He still has not taken up my offer of contacting me directly. Perhaps I should call the Vanderbijlpark factory where he works and have a chat with him.....since he is ignoring my overtures...

sorry for the repetition, but Intern

that's a Fast One!

Very impressive, one must be careful about cutting and pasting into these text boxes. You got the Rotary thing a bit wrong. It's not mainly for friendship, more business contacts. My dad's one of them, and they're an excellent source of cheap labour for fun rides. He digs handing out cokes and bananas and my all too brief wave once a year on the M3. But i'd be careful dissing volunteers, this could get nasty (even if it is fun).
