NOS on a car is Nitrous Oxide - that into the fuel system giving and instant boost of power

"NOS" for the cyclist = methane gas - but lets not worry about that too much LOL

stay low - its better for the aerodynamics Wink

and like HR said - keep your arms loose

you can hold onto the lower part of your handlebars

and be careful of objects lying in the road

and wind - a gust of wind can quickly throw you off balance

Clocked 79.6km/ph on my MTB going down Irene in Somerset before and that was into a slight head wind.....going that fast on dirt is another story, only clocked 64km/ph

Posted

I clocked 80km going down sandton drive' date=' shot through the red robot (bad I know) and did not get a fine. Spoke to a cop and those ones activated by lines dont pick up bikes but the radars do - doubt you will get a fine though.

Its the most amazing feeling going fast!!

Still want to break the 90km zone or..... the 100km zone (although that seems scary!)

You don't have a numberplate. How are they going to send you a ticket?Confused

BTW did 89.9Km/h down Vissershok with the South Easter pumping. Raise your arse out of the saddle and keep the elbows and knees flexible and enjoy BIGTIME!!

did between 75 - 80km (difference in speedo's on 2 bikes) off road down a really steep hill on XC bikes. couldn't get the bikes to go faster. it gets a bit unstable but great feeling at the bottom of the hill. i'm not to sure that i'd want to live if i came off the bike at that speed just wearing normal licra. (spelling??)

speed limits only apply to petrol-driven vehicles (diesel also obviously)

I made sure to consult a lawyer before trying stuff....

I've done 76 on a slight negative gradient but when I was in CT in the holidays this guy next to me did over 90km/h down suikerbossie

I got snapped going down Kaaimans Pass on the road bike near George by the permanent speeding camera they have got there. According to the GPS I was doing 72km/h at the time. They will have a tough time sending me the ticket though. If you do get trapped by the Camera with the Traffic Police operating it, technically you could get prosecuted.

For the purposes of the National Road Traffic Act a

'motor vehicle' means any self-propelled vehicle and includes-

          (a)     a trailer; and

          (b)     a vehicle having pedals and an engine or an electric motor as an integral part thereof or attached thereto and which is designed or adapted to be propelled by means of such pedals, engine or motor, or both such pedals and engine or motor, but does not include-

               (i)     any vehicle propelled by electrical power derived from storage batteries and which is controlled by a pedestrian; or

               (ii)     any vehicle with a mass not exceeding 230 kilograms and specially designed and constructed, and not merely adapted, for the use of any person suffering from some physical defect or disability and used solely by such person;

Which by definition also includes a bicycle.

Theres a mountain called Constantiaberg behind my house, and theres a tar road leading to the top up to the radio mast. Its about a 600m vertical descent with loads of corners coming down into Tokai arboretum. First time I rode down I thought to myself, hey this is pretty fast, only to see I was clocking 65km/h. Almost shat myself as I wasn't sure if my bike could even handle those speeds. More recently I went down there with another heavier rider who was hitting almost 80km/h. Its quite a thrill when you get to the corners and try to brake without skidding.

between 8-10km/ph or i normally go up from spanish farm side (parelvalei)

master216 tell me quickly: i start off uphill lord charles at about 13-14 km/h and further up i slow down to about 9...is that ok..im not a big girl, and on mountain bike. i measured from the robot to the bridge is about 1.1 km stretch...as you go round the bend the last little bit is the steepest. only been cycling 7 weeks and not by far strong enough...

thanks

We go speeds regularly of 80-88km/h on the Tandem...

92km/h was the fastest I recall down butchers in the south of JHB, on a tandem.

Cant think of a faster way down  a hill other than a Tandem.

86 km/h down Visserhok before I sat up to slow down a bit. Dont really feel in control any faster than that!

Beware the higher speeds though, birds dont seem to be as aware of you as normal smiley3.gif

I ride a motorbike and have had very few close shaves with birds over the years, but let me get over 80 km/h on a bicycle and its almost guaranteed some dumb pidgeon is going to try and fly into me smiley5.gif
