Harkerville Red Route

That's hardly a day ride. It can easily be done in an hour and a half.

Impressive....a few more laps and it'll be half a day ride...add lights and some determination and it'll be a 24 hr slog!

My wife won't be doing it in an hour and a half any time soon, and she was 4 months pregnant the last time we did it - took us about half a day.

Out of interest, what's our definition of a one day MTB ride, and according to what criteria are we judging the best one (day ride)?

Also, who really spends the entire riding their bike (unless they're training for the Epic, and even then it sounds misdirected)??

The rhodes mtb challenge. Start in Rhodes, cross the highest road in South Afrika on Naude's Neck, travel along the border with Lesotho towards Tiffendale and return to Rhodes. 85 Kms of mtb bliss!

cool ride. there's nothing out there but you and your bike. due to a bout of food poisoning the year before last, i only managed to get to the top of naudesnek before bailing from the raise. on the ride back down, i had to clench my butt cheeks for more than one reasonShocked

You might find this useful if you're planning a road trip - although it is out of date because it won't include the new 'trail centres' - depends what you're looking for.

To backtrack on my previous comment, Die Hel is most certainly worth visiting on a mountain bike as an experience, but spend the night there. The bulk of the riding is a wide dirt road.

Why not break it down by province? Also see http://www.mtbroutes.co.za/

but this involves more digging.

To hell and back

Sorry' date=' but To Hell and Back cannot be the best one day ride, even if you did do it in one day.

What are the criteria for judging?

but all those miles of corrugated dirt road?? and not even spending the night in Die Hel?

to compare what I think is a similar apple I'd rather do Baviaanskloof 24hr - although i've driven through it, so can only imagine what the riding is like Wink or even the Karoo to Coast route for that matter - nice change of climatic zone / terrain and all tending downhill

can't comment on mtb rides much outside the WC, unfortunately Cry
