I'm actually thinking of going SS on the Trials bike. Although there you run a 22/18 ratio. Definitely not geared for speed!

Hey Jules, will you be at the night race again next week? I stay just down the road in g-side and would like to check your setup, still waiting for my niner so will be there on a small wheeler.

I think the gearing depends on the terrain.Take my SS to varsity with me most days as there is usually no parking on campus so I park at Rhodes mem. I could park near the Main Road and ride up but prefer a bit of singletrack up and down to tar.

I had a 36-18 on mine till a few days ago. Man, it's tough. I've got 36-22 on there now as it is another one of the "magic" gears for my bike to keep the chain tensioned. Gonna try it for the first time on the uphill.

I know, I know. "Harden the F$?% up, and ride the 18 or even a 16"

I'm working on it.

Thanks for the reply's. I definately plan to do 24hr races on it and the odd marathon. looks like the 34 was a waste of cash then ?!? Do you guys have any cool links to SS pages and crazy racers like dj birch etc. Im an addict what can i say. It may only have one gear but three speeds' date=' sitting standing and walking! smiley36.gif [/quote']

Have a look for Steve Fassbinder of "The Republic of Doom", very cool bloke.

Sweet' date=' hope you don't mind an over eager SS newb drooling over your rig while his is on the water. What colour is your niner so i can spot you in the crowd?[/quote']

No worries smiley4.gif I'm on a white GT Peace 9er.

Oh yeah, check out the SS section in the MTBR forums. It's worth signing up those guys have a lot of knowledge there. Though sometimes there can be up to 14hrs or so between replies because of time differences.

also for those with vertical dropouts, this may help do away with a chain tensioner.

Muddee is that a 26' or wagon wheel 29'??

And chains: 8' date='9 speed? do power links work OK or rather not risk it? Just makes sense when trying to find that perfect gear for that magic carpet ride!

Thanks again guys![/quote']

If you live in Greenside go to Linden cycles, they got chains bout 20 odd rand I think and it's a "special" chain not 8/9 speed...
